Part of what has made The Lord of the Rings one of the most successful movie franchises in history is its attention to detail. Middle-earth has a vast and complex mythology, complete with long histories and incredible visuals that stand out against anything before it or since. Fans online have picked apart even the subtlest of these details, and what they've discovered leads to some rather dark places. For example, over the course of the original trilogy, the chain Frodo wears that carries the One Ring actually rubs the skin around his neck raw. In The Return of the King, Gandalf sends the Eagles to rescue Frodo and Samwise from Mount Doom. There is, however, a third eagle in the convoy meant for Gollum, who would never get to make his escape. One of the most tragic moments in the series occurs in The Fellowship of the Ring when Boromir becomes possessed and attacks Frodo. If you listen to him closely, you can hear Sauron's voice emanate through his!
