On June 26, 2019, the Democratic Party's candidates kicked off the first presidential debates of the 2020 election. Due to the number of candidates still in the race, the debate was held over two nights. Each night, 10 of the 20 candidates were scheduled to be on stage at the Adrienne Arscht Center in Miami, FL.
The key figures during the first night were Massachussets Senator Elizabeth Warren, Former Texas Congressman Beto O' Rourke, New Jersey Senator Corey Booker, and Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar. Over the two-hour debate, candidates covered immigration, healthcare, and foreign policy among many other topics. As the first night of debates came to a close, people took to Twitter to voice their sentiments, opinions, and concerns about who they felt "won" the night and who is not fit for the presidency. Who benefitted the most from this round of debates? Who were the surprising breakouts of the night? Was Beto O'Rourke pandering to Spanish-speaking audiences?
We need to American Idol these #demdebates. Performance one night, elimination the next night, get rid of a couple per week.— Darren Gaynor (@gaynor912) June 27, 2019
Help us, Ryan Seacrest. You’re our only hope.
