For whatever reason, people are rarely able to catch video footage of a demon. When the cameras start rolling, all the little hell-boys and ghouls scamper off into the dark recesses of the universe and create terrifying audio by screaming into the closest ghost box they can find. Frankly, it’s unsettling.

Sometimes they get chatty on a voice recorder, sometimes they whisper out from your basement, and sometimes they take part in a demonic possession and call into a radio station to get really weird.

All of the demonic voices caught on tape that you’re about to hear are very unsettling, and they just might make you rethink any electronics purchases you were planning on making.

If you’ve ever tried to contact a demon, you know that it can be tough. Sometimes they don’t feel like talking, and other times they can be oblique in communicating what it is they actually want. But when you think about it, that’s much better than a demon being straightforward with you about its wishes and desires. What if it wants you to sacrifice your little brother to Satan so he can roam free upon the earth soaking in the blood of virgins? You kind of have to do it, right? Think about that while you listen to all of these terrifying recordings of demons.

  • The Demon in the Basement

In 2007, homeowners in Philadelphia began to complain about spooky noises coming from their basement. So they put a couple of digital recorders down there and after three days of silent evenings, they recorded some very angry-sounding audio on one of the recorders. Since this was Philly, do you think it wanted a hoagie?

  • The Death of Anneliese Michel

Anneliese Michel was a German woman who led a tragically short life. Thanks to an extreme misdiagnosis of her epilepsy and mental health issues, she was sent to a Catholic priest for an exorcism. Throughout 1975 and 1976, Michel underwent 67 exorcism sessions, sometimes enduring two a week, until she died of malnutrition and dehydration. At the time of her death she weighed 68 pounds, and couldn't move without assistance.

Her parents and the two bishops who performed the rites were charged with negligent homicide, and during their trials, tapes of her exorcisms were played, revealing the sounds of Anneliese speaking in a demonic voice and identifying herself as Lucifer, Cain, Judas Iscariot, Hitler, and Nero. The bishops believe that she was finally freed of the demonic spirits just before her death - you know, because they're monsters.

  • The Enfield Haunting Recordings

The Enfield Haunting took place from 1977 to 1979 in Enfield, England, and it affected a family of five, but it specifically seemed to target to two sisters, aged 11 and 13. The hauntings ran the gamut of poltergeist activity: chairs moved, children levitated, and then there were the voices. Apparently, the two girls were both known to speak in voices that resembled something like an old Cockney man who had been gargling small pebbles all day. There's a lot of debate about whether or not the family's claims were genuine, but either way, those voices are not pleasant to listen to.

  • Interview with a Demon

    Video: YouTube

Sometime in the 1980s, a possessed woman named Rebecca called into a show on KATB Christian Radio in South Alaska to describe how her body was taken over by a demon, and how her mother was planning on sacrificing her to Satan on Halloween. At about the 22-minute mark, a demon named "The Keeper" or "The Guardian" begins to speak through the young woman with a weird raspy voice. It's pretty spooky! As far as demonic possession audio goes, this is pretty entertaining. The best part of this recording is when "The Keeper" gets mad because it thinks people are praying for Rebecca out there in radioland.
