Down the Rabbit HoleLists that explore the cyperpunk sci-fi action media series that inspired us all to buy black trenchcoats and question ~everything~. The Matrix Resurrections is due in theaters December 22, 2021.
The Matrix trilogy is one of the most action-packed, mind-bending franchises in big-screen history, and for good reason. The Wachowski's pioneered new visual effects. The mythology made us reexamine our perception of reality. Keanu Reeves showed us he knew kung fu. In many ways, the latter has been the most influential, and fans online are pointing out what makes the weapons and combat in The Matrixmovies so special. For example, in the first installment, an overhead shot of Neo and Morpheus sparring reveals something about the very nature of their relationship-- their bodies form a yin-yang. In The Matrix Revolutions, during the final fight scene, Agent Smith rears up for a punch just as lighting strikes across his fist, briefly turning him into the Zeus-like figure he is. Some of these details linger in the background. At the end of The Matrix, if you look closely you can see one of the agents hold the other back, signaling that Neo is clearly too powerful to attempt stopping.

The Lobby Shootout In 'The Matrix' Tributes 'Ghost In The Shell'
Agent Smith only calls Neo 'Neo,' instead of 'Mr. Anderson' or 'Thomas Anderson,' once in the whole trilogy - at the very end. This seems to terrify Agent Smith, who promptly loses his mind.
