Many of us love to root for the heroes — that's just what we're taught to do. But honestly, it's the villains that really shake things up and make movies and television interesting. When you think about it, these villains aren't always pure evil. Sometimes, they're just really misunderstood. With Disney Plus' wide array of animated series from over the years, it raises the important question: Who are the best Disney cartoon villains of all time?
You could make an argument for Hades, who appears in Disney's spinoff animated series Hercules. When he's not brewing a diabolical plan, he's actually pretty hilarious. Or maybe you're more of a Dr. Doofenshmirtz fan, whose lack of logic makes for some ridiculous antics on Phineas and Ferb. If superhero shows are more your thing, any one of the Marvel animated series streaming on Disney Plus should have more epic villains than you know what to do with.
This list includes the shows that have the most dubious, dastardly, and memorable Disney cartoon villains on Disney Plus. Keep reading to learn more about the baddies that made these Disney cartoons even better. Vote up the shows you think have the best bad guys!
Dipper and Mabel Pines encounter all sorts of mysterious villains in Gravity Falls. Perhaps the most spooky is Bill Cipher, an inter-dimensional dream demon that's shaped like a one-eyed triangle with hat and bow tie. While that might sound comical at first, Bill Cipher is no force to be messed with. He can read people's minds, possess bodies, shift forms, and warp reality. Essentially, he's shady as heck. In his quest for world domination, Bill Cipher will stop at nothing. Even when he's allegedly destroyed, he delivers a backwards message that says an "ancient power" will allow him to return. Creepy.
Actors: Jason Ritter, Kristen Schaal, Alex Hirsch, Linda Cardellini
This CGI-animated Star Wars spinoff Clone Warsexpanded on the legendary Sith from the original franchise and fleshed them out even further as villains. There's Count Dooku, Darth Maul, and Darth Sidious, to name a few. But rest assured, you don't need to have powers of the Force to do some serious damage to your enemies. Boba Fett and General Grievous are both able to get the job done without being Sith. Resourceful, cunning, and excellent at strategy, these Star Wars villains all pose a genuine threat to the series' main characters — which makes everything more exciting.
Actors: Matt Lanter, Ashley Eckstein, Tom Kane, James Arnold Taylor, Matthew Wood
Gargoyles isn't your average cartoon series, so therefore its villains aren't your average bad guys. During the day, these Gargoyles are hardened to stone. But at night, they come to life and protect New York City until dawn. Filled with complex story arcs and Shakespearean themes, this show simply doesn't do one-dimensional characters. These characters would show signs of good and evil, depending on their relationships to others. However, there were some baddies that stood out as the strongest: feisty Demona, powerful Oberon, and complex Coldsteel. Still other villains were found in Gargoyle's human characters, including self-centered multi-billionaire David Xanatos and misunderstood Fox.
Actors: Keith David, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Jeff Bennett, Ed Asner, Bill Fagerbakke
Spidey is always at odds with bad guys, that's just part of his job. In this 1990's TV series, Spider-Man faces some of his most dastardly foes yet. The show brings the comics' villains to the screen, including the infamous Kingpin. A savage crime overlord, Kingpin was an adversary of Spider-Man before moving on to become Daredevil's arch-nemesis. And don't forget the enigmatic Hobgoblin, a supervillain whose unknown identity creates much intrigue. Eventually he is revealed to be billionaire fashion designer Roderick Kingsley, but many other criminals assume the moniker over time.
Actors: Christopher Daniel Barnes, Jennifer Hale, Ed Asner
Kim Possible has tons of legendary baddies. After all, Kim's main job is saving the world on a regular basis. She most often goes head-to-head with the blue-skinned mad scientist Dr. Drakken and his assistant Shego, who are both Kim's main arch-foes. Then there's Monkey Fist, a confrontational British nobleman who is one of the only villains to actually remember Ron Stoppable's name. And who could forget Duff Killiagan, self-proclaimed as "The World's Deadliest Golfer"? Kim Possible gets brownie points for having some of the most creative villains of any Disney Channel show.
Actors: Christy Romano, Will Friedle, Gary Cole, Jean Smart, Shaun Fleming
Disney's animated series Hercules is a spinoff of the 1997 original animated film, and it features quite a few of the same characters. This includes the franchise's main antagonist Hades, who is arguably the best Disney villain of all time. Okay, that's a debatable topic, but come on! Hades has got it all. He's quick, he's suave, and he always has a fiery comeback right up his sleeve. He might not have Hercules' best intentions at heart, but would you if you were subjected to live in the gloomy Underworld year round? Probably not. So cut Hades some slack, and appreciate him for what he is: ancient Greece's king of sass.
Actors: Tate Donovan, Robert Costanzo, Frank Welker, French Stewart, Sandra Bernhard
