What is it with anime heroes and being dumb as bricks? While there are plenty of notable exceptions, it's all too common for heroes to come up short in the intelligence department.
Some of the dumbest anime heroes are the stars of shonen anime - Goku, Naruto, Natsu, and Luffy all seem to be cut from the same cloth. Optimistic to the point of absurdity, and with little to no plan in mind, these characters will charge right at a dangerous foe without spending one second thinking about the best way to get it done. But while this trope is prominent in shonen, it can crop up in shojo too - Sailor Moon and Fushigi Yugi are classic examples.
Whether you find these none-to-bright characters frustrating or delightful, they're part of the anime landscape. Which ones do you think are absolute fools? Vote them up!

Luffy is living proof that one doesn't have to be smart to be a successful pirate. He initially sets sail in a rinky-dink boat with almost provisions and no idea how to get to the Grand Line. To Luffy, those things are minor details. He's endlessly optimistic that whatever he tries, it'll all work out somehow. That kind of confidence is impressive, but somebody smarter than him would probably do some more advanced planning.Love this dummy?

If you meet Inosuke Hashibira, there's a good chance that you'll get knocked out before you have a chance to evaluate his intelligence - he attacks anything that seems even slightly demonic without a second thought. Sometimes this works out, but sometimes it means attacking someone he shouldn't or putting himself in danger by wildly overestimating his own skills.
Intensely prideful, he cares way more about showing off his badass fighting skills than actually figuring out how to defeat the enemy - and he's usually too busy screaming to listen to other people's ideas.Love this dummy?

Though he's come a long way since we first meet him as a twelve-year-old, Naruto still isn't exactly a brainiac. As a kid, he was about as smart as Sasuke was friendly. It took him forever to master basic jutsu, he was reckless as heck, and simple instructions were beyond him.
As he gets older, he starts learning more about what it actually takes to be the kind of ninja he wants to be...and some of that involves filling in his own gaps with wisdom from smarter people, like Shikamaru.Love this dummy?

Even Natsu's creator doesn't believe in his brain-power - according to Fairy Tail databooks, he scores an abysmal 2/5. While his Dragon Slayer powers are impressive AF, he often takes huge risks without a second thought. He's reckless, loud, and easily provoked to violence, even if that's the least logical approach. At least he's loyal to his friends!Love this dummy?
