Dune: Part One turns out to have been a huge success. After opening in theatres and HBOMax, Part Two was greenlit after only a few days. While the world-building and lore are as complex and weird as you'd expect from a book from the 1960s, people are already sifting through the sands to discuss what it all meant. Villeneuve starting Dune with narration from Chani that ends with her asking who will Arrakis' next oppressor be and then cutting to Paul shows more insight into what Dune is about than anything from Lynch's version.
