The Los Angeles/San Diego Chargers have had some great tight ends throughout the franchise&rsquo;s history. Antonio Gates

Antonio Ethan Gates Jr. (born June 18, 1980) is an American football tight end who is currently a free agent. He has been selected into the Pro Bowl eight times and is a five-time All-Pro.Gates was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2003 after playing college basketball for Kent State University.  He attended college at Kent State his junior and senior years after brief stints at Michigan State University and Eastern Michigan University. He is the Chargers' career leader in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. In 2015, he became the second tight end and ninth player overall to record 100 career touchdown receptions.  Following the 2017 season, the Chargers did not renew his contract, and he was not expected to play in 2018, but pre-season injuries depleted the Chargers at tight end, and the Chargers re-signed him in September 2018, and he went on to play in every regular and post-season game for the Chargers. He ranks sixth in career touchdown receptions, with 116, and leads all active players in this category, as well as leading all tight ends in NFL history.

Kellen Winslow

Kellen Boswell Winslow Sr. (born November 5, 1957) is an American former football player in the National Football League (NFL). A member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame (1995), he is widely recognized as one of the greatest tight ends in the league's history. Winslow played his entire NFL career from 1979 to 1987 with the San Diego Chargers after being selected in the first round of the 1979 NFL Draft. He played college football for the University of Missouri, where he was a consensus All-American. He was also inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame (2002). 
Winslow is the former director of athletics at Florida A&M University. He has previously held administrative roles at Central State University where he was athletic director, and the vice president for athletics and wellness at Lakeland College (Wisconsin)

Freddie Jones

Freddie Ray Jones Jr. (born September 16, 1974) is a former tight end in the National Football League. Jones was drafted by the San Diego Chargers with their 2nd round pick (45th overall) in the 1997 NFL Draft. Jones became one of the best tight ends in the league in his 5 years with the Chargers. On November 4, 2001, he caught Drew Brees's first touchdown pass. Before the 2002 season he signed with the Arizona Cardinals, where he played for 3 years. He then signed with the Carolina Panthers before the 2005 season, but never played. On August 7, 2005, he announced his retirement at the age of 30, with 404 receptions for 4232 yards and 22 touchdowns.

David Allen Kocourek (August 20, 1937 – April 24, 2013) was an American gridiron football player.  He played college football at Wisconsin.

Alfred Sione Pupunu (born October 16, 1969) is a former professional American football tight end who played nine seasons in the National Football League from 1992 to 2000.



Brandon Manumaleuna

Brandon Michael Manumaleuna (; born January 4, 1980) is a former American football tight end. He played college football at Arizona and was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the fourth round of the 2001 NFL Draft.
Manumaleuna has also been a member of the San Diego Chargers and Chicago Bears.

Willie Frazier

Willie C. Frazier (June 19, 1942 – September 5, 2013) was an American collegiate and professional American football tight end.   He spent three stints with the Houston Oilers over a 10-year career in the AFL and NFL and was one of the 4,000-plus plaintiffs in the concussions-related lawsuit against the NFL that was tentatively settled for $765 million a week before his death.
At 6'4", 225 lbs. from Arkansas AM&N (now University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff), Frazier played 10 seasons from 1964–1975, all in the American Football League or the American Football Conference of the National Football League.
Frazier also played tight end for the San Diego Chargers and the Kansas City Chiefs between 1964 and 1972 and in 1975.
Born in Eldorado, Ark., Frazier played at Arkansas-Pine Bluff and joined the AFL's Oilers in 1964. He also played for the Chargers from 1966 through 1970, split the 1971 season between the Chiefs and Oilers and played for Kansas City in 1972 before a final season with Houston in 1975.
He played in 121 games with 209 catches for 3,088 yards, scoring 38 touchdowns, and was selected for the AFL All-Star Game in 1965, 1967 and 1969, winning all-AFL honors with the Oilers in 1965.

Hunter Mark Henry (born December 7, 1994) is an American football tight end for the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Arkansas, where he was a consensus All-American and won the John Mackey Award as the top tight end in the nation. He was selected by the then San Diego Chargers in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft with the 35th overall pick. Henry was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on December 7, 1994. Bob Klein

Robert Owen "Bob" Klein is an American retired American football tight end.
Klein played college football at the University of Southern California, where he was the starting tight end for the Trojans' 1967 national championship team. Following his senior season, he was drafted 21st overall in the 1969 NFL draft by his hometown Los Angeles Rams. At USC, Klein was part of the Gamma Tau chapter of Beta Theta Pi.

Virgil Green

Virgil Leo Green (born August 3, 1988) is an American football tight end for the Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Nevada and was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the seventh round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Pete Holohan

Peter Joseph Holohan (born July 25, 1959 in Albany, New York) is a former professional American football player. A 6'4", 232-lb. tight end from the Notre Dame, Holohan was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the seventh round of the 1981 NFL Draft. He played for twelve NFL seasons from 1981-1992 for the Chargers, the Los Angeles Rams, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cleveland Browns.
Holohan played his high school football at Liverpool High School in Liverpool, New York.

John Mackey

John Mackey (September 24, 1941 – July 6, 2011) was an American football tight end who played for the Baltimore Colts and the San Diego Chargers. He was born in Roosevelt, New York and attended Syracuse University. He was the first president of the National Football League Players Association following the AFL-NFL merger, serving from 1970 to 1973. Mackey was also a big reason for the NFLPA to create the "88 Plan" which would financially support ex-players who required living assistance in later years.
A five-time Pro Bowler, Mackey was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1992, the second pure tight end elected.

Eric Sievers

Eric Sievers (born November 9, 1957 in Urbana, Illinois) is a former professional American football player. A 6'4", 235-lb. tight end from the University of Maryland, Sievers was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the fourth round of the 1981 NFL Draft. He was named to the NFL All Rookie team in 1981. He played for ten NFL seasons from 1981-1990 for the Chargers, the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots.
He attended Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia where he earned 1975 Parade All-American and Scholastic All-American honors.  Other All-Americans included future NFL players, Mark Malone, Matt Suhey, Stan Brock, Brad Budde, Anthony Munoz, Bruce Clark, and Curtis Dickey. He was inducted into the Virginia High School Hall of Fame in 1997.

Randy McMichael

Randy Montez McMichael (born June 28, 1979) is a former American football tight end in the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the fourth round of the 2002 NFL Draft. He played college football at Georgia.



Ladarius Green

Ladarius Green is an American football tight end who plays for the San Diego Chargers of the National Football League. He played college football with Louisiana–Lafayette and was drafted 110th overall in the 4th round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers.

Jacque MacKinnon

Jacque Harold MacKinnon (November 10, 1938 – March 6, 1975) was an American football tight end in the American Football League for the San Diego Chargers. He also was a member of the Oakland Raiders in the National Football League and the Southern California Sun in the World Football League. He played college football at Colgate University.

Mikhael Ricks

Mikhael Roy Ricks (born November 14, 1974 in Galveston, Texas) is a former National Football League tight end/wide receiver (1998–2004).
Ricks attended Anahuac High School in Anahuac, Texas. He went to college at Stephen F. Austin State University where he played football and basketball. He was drafted in the second round of the 1998 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers. He played in 16 games in his first season with the Chargers. He has also played for the Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions, and Dallas Cowboys.

Derrick Norval Walker (born June 23, 1967) is a former American football player.  He played college football for the University of Michigan as a tight end and inside linebacker from 1986 to 1989.  He played professional football as a tight end in the National Football League (NFL) for nine seasons with the San Diego Chargers (1990-1993), the Kansas City Chiefs (1994-1997), and the Oakland Raiders (1998).

Pettis Burch Norman (born January 4, 1939) is a former professional American football tight end in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys and the San Diego Chargers. He played college football at Johnson C. Smith University.

John Phillips

John Phillips (born June 11, 1987) is an American football tight end who is a free agent. He was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys, 208th overall, in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He played college football at the University of Virginia. He has also been a member of the San Diego Chargers, Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals.

He played college football at the University of South Carolina and was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Kristopher "Kris" Wilson (born August 22, 1981) is a former American football tight end. He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the second round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He played college football at Pittsburgh. Wilson has also been a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, San Diego Chargers, and Baltimore Ravens.
