Vote up the coolest looking stormtrooper divisions to patrol a galaxy far, far away.
While characters like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader may come to mind first when you think about Star Wars, the humble stormtrooper is one of the most indelible elements of the Skywalker Saga. Whether they're combing the deserts of Tatooine or patrolling the forest moon of Endor, every type of stormtrooper serves a unique role in the Empire or First Order.
And while every stormtrooper shares certain stylistic touchstones - rounded helmets, body armor, questionable marksmanship - each new chapter in the franchise offers new twists on the Imperial rank and file. The standard white-helmeted trooper is by far the most common, but almost every movie in the series has added a specialized spin on the original - from the cold weather assault stormtroopers of Empire Strikes Back to the jumptroopers of Rise of Skywalker.
This list compiles every stormtrooper to appear in a live-action Star Wars property (sorry, fans of the animated series, comics, and video games) to determine which ones are the most stylish members of the Imperial forces.
What They Do: These elite troops were named by Emperor Palpatine himself as a nod to galactic rumors about an undead force at his disposal. These soldiers serve as bodyguards and personal enforcers for the highest level of Imperial officers.
When They Show Up: Episode II - Attack of the Clones
What They Do: The original troopers commissioned by Darth Sidious to ultimately destabilize the Galactic Republic, clone troopers prefigure the classic stormtroopers, but sport variations in color and design to denote classes and divisions.
When They Show Up: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi
What They Do: First appearing during a chase through the trees of Endor's moon, scout troopers are experts at reconnaissance and patrolling Imperial strongholds. They wear lighter armor and helmets designed to improve marksmanship.
What They Do: The original Imperial infantry, this is the most common type of trooper in the original trilogy. They may be found walking the halls of a Death Star or combing the streets in search of droids. Either way, they're a clear and immediate symbol of the Empire's influence.
What They Do: Also known as "shoretroopers," these forces are trained and outfitted for action in tropical settings. They are stationed on Scarif to guard the beaches and bunkers surrounding the citadel tower.
When They Show Up: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
What They Do: These troopers sport insulated armor and heated helmets connected to a breathing apparatus to better handle subzero conditions. They reinforce Darth Vader during the strike on Hoth's Echo Base.
