Rumors about Chilling Adventures of Sabrina are flying through the air like broomsticks. The 2017 launch of Riverdale got fans interested in the idea of a Sabrina series, and then executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa announced the supernatural TV show would be based on the existing Archie Comics universe.
Aside from giving small hints, Aguirre-Sacasa and the rest of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina cast have remained tight-lipped about what's in store for viewers, so little is known about the upcoming Netflix adaptation. Kiernan Shipka plays the titular character, but how much of the horror from the comic will transfer to the television series? And is Salem the Cat going to make an appearance?
Even though fans of Chilling Adventures only have to wait six months between the first and second season, those who find they need a little more Greendale in their lives can watch Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: A Midwinter's Tale.
Set to drop on Netflix on December 14, the holiday special follows Sabrina and company as she prepares for the longest night of the year - the winter solstice. Things seem relatively cheerful in the sleepy town until an unwanted visitor tries to make his way down the chimney.
On December 1, 2018, Netflix released a 45-second teaser trailer for the second season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. While the preview doesn't reveal too much about the second season's arc, it does feature a witchy makeover montage, Sabrina and Harvey at a dance, and the muzzle of some horrifying creature in the woods all set to a faithful cover of The Runaways "Cherry Bomb." The teaser ends with the season's release date: April 5, 2019.
On October 3, Netflix released the second trailer for the 2018 series. The trailer teases some of the darker aspects of the series, like Sabrina's dark baptism and what looks like a resurrection ritual in the woods. Sabrina's aunts, Hilda and Zelda Spellman, urge her to sign the book and officially become a Bride of Satan.
Meanwhile, the teenage witch's favorite teacher, Mary Wardell, gets possessed by the devil's handmaiden and becomes the destructive Madam Satan.
On September 13, 2018, Netflix dropped the first trailer for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and it features much darker tones than its TGIF Melissa Joan Hart-led counterpart. The trailer shows Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka of Mad Men fame) preparing to celebrate her 16th birthday. For potential witches, this is a big deal - she has to decide whether she wants to become a full-fledged Bride of Satan and embrace her witchy powers or abandon that path and remain mortal with her boyfriend, Harvey Kinkle.
Of course, the decision isn't clear-cut, as her favorite teacher, Mary Wardell, becomes possessed by the devil's handmaiden and turns into Madam Satan - a spirit hellbent on destroying Sabrina's life.
