From his rowdy presence on and off the stage, to his provocative music and unfiltered opinions, it's easy to get caught up in the drama of Eminem's public persona. Even though the rapper never hesitates to include autobiographical stories in his lyrics, there are likely still some things you didn't know about Eminem's family and personal life.
While he frequently raps about treating women abhorrently, this tough-as-nails performer is also a devoted dad to three beautiful daughters, Hailie, Alaina, and Whitney. But who are Eminem's daughters? In a culture fixated on celebrity, it's surprising that a high-profile entertainer like Em would be able to shield his kids from the public. Well, that's exactly what he's done, and by all accounts, he's raised normal, well-adjusted young women who have morals, brains and talent of their own.
Out of Eminem's three daughters, Hailie Jade Scott is his only biological child. Hailie was born on Christmas Day in 1995, and was conceived with Em's then-girlfriend Kim. Since then, Hailie has been the subject of numerous Eminem songs, and now that she's an adult, she's carving out her own path in the world.
Born in 2002, Whitney Scott Mathers is the biological daughter of Em's ex-wife Kim and a man named Eric Hartter. Whitney was the product of a brief fling, and her birth father is not a consistent figure in her life. In response to this, Eminem stepped up to make sure Whitney was properly cared for.
When Kim was dealing with drug addiction, Em was inspired to legally adopt Whitney in order to provide the child with the supportive home she needed. "I’m in love with that girl, man," Eminem said at the time he adopted Whitney. "She’s so sweet and funny."
Alaina Marie Mathers was born in 1993 to Kim's twin sister, Dawn Scott. Like Kim, Dawn struggled with drug addiction issues, leaving Alaina in desperate need of a healthier home. Eminem recognized that he could provide the care Alaina needed, so he stepped in and adopted her.
During the proceedings, Alaina's name was changed (she was formerly known as Amanda), and Em now calls her Lainey.
In the minds of most fans, Hailie will always be the little girl that Em loved to rap about; the child at the heart of his tumultuous relationship with his ex-wife Kim. However, Hailie is now all grown up, and in 2016, she celebrated her 21st birthday. She is studying psychology in college, and she sporadically chronicles her life on her Instagram.
