John Mugabi

John Mugabi (born 4 March 1960) is a Ugandan former professional boxer who competed from 1980 to 1991, and 1996 to 1999. He held the WBC super-welterweight title from 1989 to 1990, and challenged twice for world titles at middleweight, including the undisputed championship.
Mugabi was part of an exceptionally talented group of light-middleweights and middleweights during a "golden era" of the 1980s which included Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, Wilfred Benítez, Davey Moore, and Roberto Durán. As an amateur, Mugabi won a silver medal in the welterweight division at the 1980 Summer Olympics, and was the only medallist for Uganda at the event. He is listed #38 on Ring Magazine's list of 100 greatest punchers of all time

Leo Rwabwogo

Leo Rwabwogo (June 3, 1949 – January 14, 2009) was a boxer from Uganda, who won two Olympic medals during his career as an amateur in the flyweight division (– 51 kg). He won the silver medal in the 1972 Olympics in Munich, and a bronze medal four years earlier at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. As of 2016, he is the only Ugandan who has won more than one Olympic medal.



Kassim Ouma

Kassim Ouma (born 12 December 1978) is a Ugandan professional boxer. He held the IBF junior middleweight title from 2004 to 2005, and has challenged twice for a world middleweight title in 2006 and 2011.



Sam Rukundo

Sam ("Rocky") Rukundo (born May 18, 1980 in Kampala) is a boxer from Uganda, who competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics for his native African country. There he was stopped in the quarterfinals of the lightweight  (– 60 kg) division by Russia's Murat Khrachev.
Rukundo qualified for the 2004 Athens Games by ending up in second place at the 2nd AIBA African 2004 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Gaborone, Botswana. In the final he was defeated by Mauritius' Michael Medor.
After representing his native country at the Athens Olympics, Rukundo decided to turn pro, under the training of James Cook, and under the management of Mickey Helliet. He made his debut on the September 4 the same year, and moved to Sweden to improve as a professional fighter.
He has twice been African champion, most recently in January 2009.

Ayub Kalule

Ayub Kalule (born 6 January 1954) is a retired boxer from Uganda, who first came to prominence when he won the Amateur World Welterweight Title at the inaugural 1974 World Championships in Havana, Cuba. He turned professional and based himself in Denmark, and went on to win the world light-middleweight championship. He subsequently lost the title to Sugar Ray Leonard.

Cornelius Boza Edwards

Cornelius Boza Edwards (born 27 May 1956 in Kampala, Uganda) is the former WBC Super Featherweight Champion of the World. Boza Edwards was a  Ugandan, and fought in both the Super Featherweight and Lightweight divisions. Edwards emigrated from Uganda to England, where he lived for a long period. He currently lives in the United States, where he trains other boxers.

Fred Mutuweta

Fredrick "Fred" Muteweta (born November 4, 1971 in Kampala) is a retired boxer from Uganda, who represented his native country at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea in the light-flyweight class. There he was defeated in the second round by Wayne McCullough of Ireland. In the bantamweight class at the 1992 Summer Olympics, he was once again defeated in his opening bout, once again by Wayne McCullough.
He also represented Uganda at the 1991 All-Africa Games, winning a gold medal as a bantamweight and at the 1994 Commonwealth Games, winning a bronze medal in the bantamweight category.
Muteweta made his professional debut in 1996, and retired after ten professional bouts, losing five and winning five.

Joseph Lubega

Joseph Lubega (born January 1, 1982 in Namirembe, Kampala) is a boxer from Uganda, who participated in the 2004 Summer Olympics for his country. There he was stopped in the first round of the middleweight (75 kg) division by Thailand's eventual bronze medal winner Prasathinphimai Suriya.
Two years earlier Lubega won the silver medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in the light heavyweight (81 kg) division. He qualified for the Athens Games by winning the silver medal at the 1st AIBA African 2004 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Casablanca, Morocco. In the final of the event he lost to South African fighter Khostso Motau.

Jolly Katongole

Jolly Katongole (15 December 1985 – 14 May  2015) was a boxer from Uganda, who participated in the 2004 Summer Olympics for his native African country. There he was stopped in the first round of the light flyweight (– 48 kg) division by Turkey's eventual runner-up Atagün Yalçınkaya.He won the bronze medal in the same division one year earlier, at the All-Africa Games in Abuja, Nigeria. Katongole qualified for the Athens Games by winning the gold medal at the 1st AIBA African 2004 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Casablanca, Morocco. In the final of the event he defeated Morocco's Redouane Bouchtouk.

Sadat Tebazaalwa

Sadat Tebazaalwa (born October 23, 1985) is a Ugandan amateur boxer who participated in the 2004 Summer Olympics. There he was defeated in the first round of the welterweight (-69 kg) division by China's Kanat Islam.
He qualified for the Athens Games by winning the gold medal at the 2nd AIBA African 2004 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Gaborone, Botswana. In the final he defeated Zambia's Ellis Chibuye. In 2003, Tebazaalwa won the bronze medal in his weight division at the All-Africa Games in Abuja, Nigeria.

Brian Mayanja

Brian Mayanja (born January 25, 1983) is a boxer from Uganda, who participated in the 2004 Summer Olympics for his native African country. There he was outscored in the first round of the Featherweight (57 kg) division by Kazakhstan's Galib Jafarov. He qualified for the Athens Games by winning the silver medal at the 1st AIBA African 2004 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Casablanca, Morocco. In the final of the event he lost to Tunisian fighter Saifeddine Nejmaoui.
