The Daughters of the American Revolution or DAR is a service organization for women who are direct descendents of individuals who were involved in America’s independence. The DAR was founded in 1890 and is still active today with members completing over 250,000 hours of volunteer work annually.
Who is the most famous member of the Daughters of the American Revolution? Former First Lady Laura Bush tops our list. Bush joined the DAR in 2001, but she did not publicize her volunteer work as she is a very modest woman who does not like to be the center of attention. Elizabeth Dole and Janet Reno are also members of the DAR.
Hollywood is also home to some famous DAR members. The multi-talented actress Ginger Rogers was involved in the non-profit organization and more recently, the beautiful actress Bo Derek became a member. Astronaut Margaret Rhea Seddon, who participated in three space shuttle flights, is also a member of the DAR.
