Sydney Leroux

Sydney Rae Leroux Dwyer (born May 7, 1990) is a professional soccer player and Olympic gold medalist who currently plays as a forward for Orlando Pride in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL).
Born in Canada to a Canadian mother and an American father, Sydney came up through the Canadian system and represented Canada at various youth levels, until she chose to play for the United States women's national under-20 soccer team starting in 2008 and later began playing for the U.S. senior national team in 2012. Leroux has earned over 75 caps with the senior national team and was part of the Americans' winning squads at the 2012 London Olympics and 2015 Women's World Cup.
Leroux played collegiate soccer in NCAA Division I for UCLA Bruins women's soccer and at the semi-professional level for the Vancouver Whitecaps. She made her debut for the Whitecaps at the age of fifteen, becoming the youngest player ever to play for the team. Leroux was the number one pick by the Atlanta Beat during the 2012 WPS Draft on January 13, 2012. Following the suspension of the league in early 2012, she played for the Seattle Sounders Women during the summer of the same year.
In 2013, she made her professional debut for the Boston Breakers in the NWSL during the league's inaugural season. She was later traded to Seattle Reign FC in 2014, Western New York Flash for the 2015 season and FC Kansas City prior to the 2016 season.

Mary Pierce

Mary Caroline Pierce (born 15 January 1975) is a retired tennis professional who represented France internationally in team competitions and the Olympics. She was born in Canada to an American father and a French mother, and holds citizenship of all three countries.
Pierce won four Grand Slam titles: two in singles, one in doubles and one in mixed doubles. She reached six Grand Slam singles finals, most recently at the US Open and French Open in 2005. Her Grand Slam singles titles came at the 1995 Australian Open and the 2000 French Open; Pierce is the last French player, male or female, to win the latter title. She won the doubles event at the 2000 French Open with Martina Hingis as her partner, and reached an additional Grand Slam women's doubles final at the 2000 Australian Open, also partnering Hingis. She also won the mixed doubles event at the 2005 Wimbledon Championships, partnering with Mahesh Bhupathi. Pierce won 18 WTA singles titles and 10 WTA doubles titles, including five Tier I singles events. She also twice reached the final of the season-ending WTA Tour Championships, most recently in 2005.

Carey May

Carey May (born July 19, 1959 in Dublin) is a former long-distance runner from Ireland, who won the Osaka Ladies Marathon in 1983 and 1985.

Sarah Murphy

Sarah Jane Spidy Murphy (born February 16, 1988 in Banff, Alberta) is a New Zealand biathlete. She represented New Zealand at the 2010 Winter Olympics. She was the first Kiwi Olympic biathlete.
Born in Canada to a New Zealand mother and a Canadian father, she was raised in Canmore, Alberta, and Nelson, New Zealand.At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Murphy finished 82nd in both the 7.5 km and 15 km events and did not compete in the 10 km pursuit.Her best performance to date has been to finish 47th in a field of 100 at a World Cup event in Italy in January 2010.



Helen Upperton

Helen Lesley Upperton (born October 31, 1979) is a Canadian bobsledder who has competed since 2002. Upperton was born in Ahmadi, Kuwait as her parents involvement in the oil industry meant they traveled abroad. She holds dual citizenship of both Great Britain and Canada. Upperton won the silver medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics after previously finishing fourth in the two-woman event at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. She went to high school at Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School
Upperton also competed in the FIBT World Championships, earning her best finish of fourth in the two-woman event at Altenberg in 2008. Her best overall Bobsleigh World Cup finish was second in the two-woman event in the 2005-06 season.
A former triple jumper at the University of Texas at Austin, Upperton moved to bobsleigh in 2002. In the 2005-06 season she won four medals on the World Cup including a gold at an event in St. Moritz, Switzerland, Canada's first women's World Cup win in bobsleigh. One month later she finished fourth in the two-woman event at the 2006 Winter Olympics. Upperton scored a total of six wins and over 20 podium finishes in World Cup competition.She won a silver medal in the Two-woman competition at the 2010 Winter Olympics with Shelley-Ann Brown. The gold medal was won by fellow Canadians Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse. It marked the first time of the 2010 Olympics that Canadians had won two medals in one event.Upperton and Brown announced their retirements from the sport in September 2012. After retiring Upperton became manager of community relations with WinSport Canada. Subsequently she became head coach of WinSport Academy's  bobsleigh programme, training developing bobsledders.Upperton was a commentator for men's and women's bobsleigh and skeleton at the 2014 Winter Olympics and 2018 Winter Olympics with Mark Connolly.

Sarah Podorieszach

Sarah Podorieszach (born June 5, 1989) is a Canadian-Italian luger who has competed since 2001 and for Italy since 2005. She finished 11th in the women's singles event at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.
Podorieszach started luge at the age of 12 with the Calgary Luge club, winning numerous events in her age class while living and competing in Calgary. She resigned from the Canadian Luge team in September 2004 and began competing for the Italian National Luge team. This was due to Podorieszach's dual Canadian/Italian citizenship.
She finished 22nd in the women's singles event at the 2006 FIL European Luge Championships in Winterberg. At the 2007 FIL World Luge Championships in Igls, Podorieszach finished 20th in the women's singles event.

Clara Hughes

Clara Hughes,  (born September 27, 1972) is a Canadian cyclist and speed skater who has won multiple Olympic medals in both sports. Hughes won two bronze in the 1996 Summer Olympics and four medals (one gold, one silver, two bronze) over the course of three Winter Olympics. She is tied with Cindy Klassen as the Canadian with the most Olympic medals, with six medals total.Hughes is one of the few athletes who have competed in both the Summer and Winter Olympic games. Hughes is one of only five people to have podium finishes in the Winter and Summer versions of the games, and is the only person ever to have won multiple medals in both. Hughes was the first Canadian woman to win a medal in road cycling at the Olympics, winning two in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.As a result of her success in multiple sports and her humanitarian efforts, Hughes was named to both the Order of Manitoba and as an Officer of the Order of Canada. She is involved with Right To Play, which is an athlete-driven international humanitarian organization that uses sports to encourage the development of youth in disadvantaged areas. After winning her gold medal in 2006, she donated $10,000 to Right to Play.
Throughout her career Hughes received a number of other awards, trophies, and accolades. She was named Female Athlete of the Year by Speed Skating Canada in 2004 for long track. In 2006, she received the International Olympic Committee's Sport and Community Trophy. She was then named to the 2006 List of Most Influential Women in Sport and Physical Activity by the Canadian Association for Advancement of Women and Sport (CAAWS). In the summer of the year 2010, it was announced that she would receive a star on the Canadian Walk of Fame and on November 15, 2010, she was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame.

Jayna Hefford

Jayna Hefford (born May 14, 1977) is a women's ice hockey player who won multiple medals at the Winter Olympics and IIHF World Women's Championships as well as titles in the National Women's Hockey League and Canadian Women's Hockey League. She helped Canada win four-straight Olympic gold medals from 2002 to 2014 and famously scored the gold-medal winning goal at the 2002 Winter Olympics. At the club level across three leagues, she scored 439 goals in 418 competitive games including a CWHL record 44 goals in 2008-09.
She was selected to be inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame on June 26, 2018. On July 19, 2018, Hefford was named interim commissioner of the Canadian Women's Hockey League. She was named a 2019 Order of Hockey in Canada recipient.
Hefford was born in Trenton, Ontario, but grew up in Kingston, Ontario. She played for the Mississauga Chiefs and Brampton Thunder.

Sarah Vaillancourt

Sarah Marie Vaillancourt (born May 8, 1985) is a Canadian women's ice hockey player. She is a member of the Canada women's national team and a member of Montreal Stars (CWHL).
2-time Olympic Gold Medallist / World Championships Gold / 4-time World Championships Silver / Clarkson Cup Champion (2010–11). From 2003 to 2009 Vaillancourt played 88 international games for Team Canada and scored 36 goals adding 39 assists. She won 2 Olympic Gold medals for Canada, in 2006 and 2010. While playing for Harvard University she was named the Ivy League and ECAC Hockey Player of the Year. She led Harvard in scoring, and was ranked fourth overall in the NCAA in 2007–08. In 2008, she won the coveted Patty Kazmaier Award.
Vaillancourt started skating at the age of two years and a half and playing hockey at five years. She made the national team when she was 18 and one of her favourite hockey moments is winning gold on home soil at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games. She studied psychology at Harvard University and works as a skills coach. Vaillancourt is openly lesbian.

Jennifer Heil

Jennifer Heil (born April 11, 1983) is a Canadian freestyle skier from Spruce Grove, Alberta. Heil started skiing at age two. Jennifer Heil won the first gold medal for Canada in the 2006 Winter Olympics games in Turin, Italy and a silver medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, which was also Canada's first medal in those games. Heil is the reigning world champion in dual moguls.  She has three world championship titles in total and two silver medals from the Worlds as well. Over her career, Heil has won a record-tying five overall FIS World Cup Crystal Globe titles for freestyle skiing.
Heil is involved with several charitable organisations including Because I am a Girl and Right to Play. During the 2010 Winter Olympics, Heil donated $25,000 to Because I am a Girl. Heil also speaks to students across Canada along a theme of Dare to Dream, and hosts an annual "girls only" mogul skiing camp. B2ten, created with the help of Heil, is a privately run business model organisation with the intent of raising funds to support amateur Canadian athletes.

Heather Moyse

Heather Moyse  (born July 23, 1978) is a Canadian athlete and two-time Olympic gold medalist, representing Canada in international competition as a bobsledder, rugby union player, and track cyclist and competing at the Canadian intercollegiate level in rugby, soccer and track and field.



Tanith Belbin

Tanith Jessica Louise Belbin White (born July 11, 1984) is a Canadian-American ice dancer and Olympic program host for NBC Sports. Though born in Canada, she holds dual citizenship and has competed for the United States since she began skating with Benjamin Agosto in 1998. With Agosto, Belbin is the 2006 Olympic silver medalist, four-time World medalist, three-time Four Continents champion (2004–2006), and five-time U.S. champion (2004–2008).

Caroline Ouellette

Caroline Ouellette (born May 25, 1979) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player. She was a member of the Canadian national women's ice hockey team and a member of Canadiennes de Montreal in the Canadian Women's Hockey League. Among her many accomplishments are four Olympic gold medals, 12 IIHF Women's World Championship medals (six gold, six silver), 12 Four Nations Cup medals (eight gold, four silver) and four Clarkson Cup championships.
Ouellette is in the Top 10 in all-time NCAA scoring with 229 career points. She is a member of the Triple Gold Club (not officially recognized by the IIHF for women) as one of only three women to win the Clarkson Cup, an Olympic gold medal and an IIHF Women's World Championship gold medal. Along with teammates Jayna Hefford and Hayley Wickenheiser, Ouellette is one of only five athletes to win gold in four consecutive Olympic games.Nicknamed Caro by her teammates, she started playing hockey at the age of nine. She is the co-founder of athletichub.com, an innovative new online network that helps student-athletes navigate the recruitment process, and an ambassador for Right to Play and Carrément Rose.
Ouellette retired as a player from Canada's national women's team on September 25, 2018.

Deidra Dionne

Deidra Dionne (born February 5, 1982) is a Canadian freestyle skier. She was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. She won bronze in the 2002 Winter Olympics in freestyle aerial ski  She also won the bronze medal at the 2001 and 2003 FIS World Freestyle Ski Championships.Her health and career appeared in jeopardy on September 1, 2005; when she had a training accident that injured her neck.  
She came close to being paralyzed.
She had to have surgery where two vertebrae in her neck were fused with a titanium plate.  A bone graft needed to be taken from her right hip.  Eventually she recoverred, and was able to participate in the 2006 Winter Olympics.
At the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, Dionne won a bronze medal in women's aerial ski jumping.

Gina Kingsbury

Gina Kingsbury (born November 26, 1981 in Uranium City, Saskatchewan) is a retired women's ice hockey player. She graduated from St. Lawrence University with a degree in psychology. She ranks second all-time in scoring among St. Lawrence Skating Saints women's ice hockey players.

Jennifer Botterill

Jennifer Botterill,  (born May 1, 1979 in Ottawa, Ontario) is a retired women's hockey player who played for Harvard University, the Canadian national team, the Mississauga Chiefs, and the Toronto Aeros. She assisted on the game-winning goal in her final international game, Canada's 2-0 win over the United States for the gold medal in the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Although born in Ottawa, Ontario, she claims a hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Shannon Szabados

Shannon Lynn Szabados (Hungarian: [ˈsɒbɒdoʃ]; born August 6, 1986) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender for the Buffalo Beauts and the Canada women's national ice hockey team.Szabados had played for the MacEwan University Griffins and the NAIT Ooks men's hockey teams of the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference from 2007 until 2013. Szabados has been the first female player at several different tournaments and in several leagues, including minor, junior, and professional hockey.  While playing junior hockey, Szabados became the first female to appear in the Western Hockey League (WHL) where she played exhibition games for the Tri-City Americans.  Szabados was also the first female to play in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), and recorded a shutout in her first game.  After the 2006–07 season, Szabados was named the AJHL's Top Goaltender.  During the 2013–14 season, Szabados became the first woman to both sign and play in the Southern Professional Hockey League.Szabados represented Canada internationally at the 2010, 2014, and 2018 Winter Olympics. She was in goal during Canada's gold medal wins over the United States in 2010 and 2014.  After the 2010 tournament, she was named Top Goaltender and was selected to the Tournament All-Star Team.
On November 21, 2014, Szabados made 34 saves to become the first female goaltender to win an SPHL game when the Cottonmouths defeated the Fayetteville FireAntz 5–4 in overtime. On December 27, 2015, Szabados became the first woman to record a shutout in a men's professional hockey league, in a 33-save, 3–0 win for the Cottonmouths over the Huntsville Havoc.

Becky Kellar-Duke

Rebecca "Becky" Kellar (born January 1, 1975) is a women's ice hockey player. She played for Burlington Barracudas in the Canadian Women's Hockey League.
Kellar played defence for the Canadian women's team at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. She also participated in the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano as well as the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City. She was named to the Canadian team for the 2010 Winter Olympics and will be one of four Canadian women to participate in all four Olympic tournaments along with Hayley Wickenheiser, Jennifer Botterill and Jayna Hefford. Kellar was the oldest player in the 2010 gold medal game. She was the first player on the Canadian national women's hockey team to have children.

Cherie Piper

Cherie Piper (born June 29, 1981) is a Canadian former ice hockey player residing in Markham, Ontario. She was a member of the Canadian national women's hockey team and played for the Brampton Thunder of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL).  Piper has won three Olympic gold medals with the Canadian national team in 2002, 2006 and 2010, as well as one world championship title in 2004.

Gillian Apps

Gillian Mary Apps (born November 2, 1983) is a women's ice hockey player. Apps was a member of the Canadian National Hockey Team that won back to back Gold Medals in three consecutive Olympic Games.
As a psychology major at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, United States, Apps was a member of her college's ice hockey team, competing in ECAC women's ice hockey. She was a member of the Canada women's national ice hockey team, winning gold medals at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. She was also a winner of gold medals with Team Canada at the 2004 and 2007 World Ice Hockey Championships, and silver medals in that event in 2005, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2013.
Apps was a member of the Brampton Thunder in the Canadian Women's Hockey League until 2015 at which point she announced her retirement from professional women's hockey.

Kristina Groves

Kristina Nicole Groves (born December 4, 1976) is a Canadian retired speed skater. She is Canada's most decorated skater in the World Single Distances Championships with 13 career medals in this event. She won four Olympic medals: she won two silver medals at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, in the 1,500 meters and team pursuit, and she won the silver medal in the 1500 m event and the bronze medal in the 3000 m event at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.As of 2012, she was ranked sixth on the women's Adelskalender, her teammates Cindy Klassen and Christine Nesbitt were ranked first and seventh respectively.

Meghan Agosta-Marciano

Meghan Christina Agosta (born February 12, 1987) is a Canadian women's ice hockey forward, who last played for the Montreal Stars of the Canadian Women's Hockey League. Agosta plays for the Canada women's national ice hockey team and is a gold (3) and silver medallist at the Winter Olympics of 2006 Turin, 2010 Vancouver, 2014 Sochi, and 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. At the 2010 Winter Olympics, Agosta was named MVP of the Women's Hockey Tournament. She is a multi-medallist at the Women's World Championships with two gold medals and six silvers. 
During the 2006–07 season as a freshman at Mercyhurst College in NCAA Division I hockey, Agosta is the inaugural freshman recipient of the Patty Kazmaier Award. She was named a First Team All-American and unanimously chosen for CHA Player of the Year. Agosta led the 2008–09 Mercyhurst Lakers to the finals of the NCAA women's hockey championship and as captain that season, earned numerous accolades, including being selected as a 2009 First Team All-American, a Patty Kazmaier Award Final Three, College Hockey America Player of the Year, the CHA Three-Star Player of the Year, to the CHA All-Tournament Team, and to the Frozen Four All-Tournament Team.

Laura Ruhnke

Kimiko Zakreski

Kimiko Zakreski (born December 31, 1983 in St. Albert, Alberta) is a Canadian snowboarder who currently resides in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Zakreski competes in alpine disciplines, Parallel GS and Parallel Slalom.
She was featured in the MTV Canada series Summer Sessions with national riders like Dominique Vallee and close friend Michael Lambert. She is also featured in the follow-up MTV show Over the Bolts which followed the Canadian national team over the season. Zakreski and her friendship with Lambert is one of the main "storylines" followed on the show.
Zakreski got her first World Cup podium on the 2008-09 FIS Snowboard World Cup tour, finishing second in Limone Piemonte, Italy. In December during the 2009-10 FIS Snowboard World Cup season she achieved her second ever WC podium finishing third in Telluride, Colorado. Kimiko competed for Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Cindy Klassen

Cindy Klassen,  (born August 12, 1979) is a Canadian retired long track speed skater. She is a six-time medallist having achieved one gold, two silver, three bronze at the Winter Olympics. Klassen is tied with Clara Hughes for Canada's all-time most decorated Olympian with six medals each. Both Klassen and Hughes are from Winnipeg.
She is the only Canadian Olympian to win five medals in a single Olympic games and the first female speed skater to win five medals in a single games at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. She was a world record holder in the 3000 m until March 2019, when her time was beaten by Martina Sáblíková. She also holds the Canadian records over 1500 m and 5000 m. Klassen is the leader of the Adelskalender, which is the all-time world ranking for speed skating. In 2003, Klassen became the first Canadian in 27 years to win the overall title at the World Speed Skating Championships.Klassen has several major awards and accolades to her name having won the Lou Marsh Trophy in 2006, which is awarded for Canada's best athlete of the year. Due to her tremendous accomplishments at the 2006 Winter Olympics and her many accomplishments throughout her career, Klassen was named to the Order of Manitoba. Klassen was awarded the Oscar Mathisen Award in 2006 for outstanding speed skating performance of the year. In 2007, she was given the award for Female Athlete of the Year at the Canadian Sports Awards. Klassen won the 2005 and 2006 Bobbie Rosenfeld Award as female athlete of the year as presented from the Canadian Press. She was also tipped as Speed Skating Canada's 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007 Female Skater of the Year for long track speed skating. The Canadian Mint featured Klassen on a Canadian quarter in 2010 as part of their Olympic memories editions and as a recognition of her six Olympic medals.
