Mary Pierce

Mary Caroline Pierce (born 15 January 1975) is a retired tennis professional who represented France internationally in team competitions and the Olympics. She was born in Canada to an American father and a French mother, and holds citizenship of all three countries.
Pierce won four Grand Slam titles: two in singles, one in doubles and one in mixed doubles. She reached six Grand Slam singles finals, most recently at the US Open and French Open in 2005. Her Grand Slam singles titles came at the 1995 Australian Open and the 2000 French Open; Pierce is the last French player, male or female, to win the latter title. She won the doubles event at the 2000 French Open with Martina Hingis as her partner, and reached an additional Grand Slam women's doubles final at the 2000 Australian Open, also partnering Hingis. She also won the mixed doubles event at the 2005 Wimbledon Championships, partnering with Mahesh Bhupathi. Pierce won 18 WTA singles titles and 10 WTA doubles titles, including five Tier I singles events. She also twice reached the final of the season-ending WTA Tour Championships, most recently in 2005.

Natalia Goncharova

Natalia Sergeevna Goncharova (Russian: Ната́лья Серге́евна Гончаро́ва, IPA: [nɐˈtalʲjə sʲɪrˈɡʲejɪvnə ɡənʲtɕɪˈrovə]; June 21, 1881 – October 17, 1962) was a Russian avant-garde artist, painter, costume designer, writer, illustrator, and set designer. Goncharova's lifelong partner was also a fellow Russian avant-garde artist Mikhail Larionov. She was a founding member of both the Jack of Diamonds (1909–1911), Moscow's first radical independent exhibiting group, the more radical Donkey's Tail (1912–1913), and with Larionov invented Rayonism (1912–1914). She was also a member of the German based art movement known as Der Blaue Reiter. Born in Russia, she moved to Paris in 1921 and lived there until her death.
Her painting vastly influenced the avant-garde in Russia. Her exhibition held in Moscow and St. Petersburg (1913 and 1914) were the first promoting a “new” artist by an independent gallery. When it comes to the pre-revolutionary period in Russia, where decorative painting and icons were a secure profession, her modern approach to rendering icons were both transgressive and problematic. Her work is usually considered too culturally specific to her Slavic heritage to be universally figured as avant-garde.

Marina Anisina

Marina Vyacheslavovna Anissina (Russian: Марина Вячеславовна Анисина; born 30 August 1975) is a French-Russian ice dancer. Competing with Gwendal Peizerat for France, she is the 2002 Olympic champion, the 1998 Olympic bronze medalist, the 2000 World champion, and a six-time French national champion.
Earlier in her career, Anissina competed with Ilia Averbukh for Russia and the Soviet Union. They won gold at two World Junior Championships.

Sylvie Becaert

Sylvie Becaert (born 6 September 1975 in Lille) is a French biathlete. Becaert's best year so far was 2003 when she came third in the overall world cup standings and won gold in the sprint event at the World Championships 2003 in Khanty-Mansiysk. At the 2006 Olympics in Turin, she won a bronze medal with the French relay team behind Russia and Germany.  In 2009 at the World Championships in Pyeongchang, Becaert was part of the victorious mixed relay teamBecaert retired after the 2009–10 season.

Sandrine Bailly (born 25 November 1979 in Belley, Ain) is a former French biathlete. She was most successful in the 2004–05 season, when she won the overall World Cup, and in the 2007–08 season, when she finished second. In 2003, she became world champion in the 10 km pursuit (together with Martina Glagow).

Amélie Mauresmo

Amélie Simone Mauresmo (French pronunciation: ​[ameli simɔn moʁɛsmo]; born 5 July 1979) is a French retired professional tennis player and former world No. 1. Mauresmo won two Grand Slam singles titles, at the Australian Open and at Wimbledon, and also won the silver medal in singles at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Mauresmo first attained the top ranking on 13 September 2004, holding it for five weeks on that occasion. She was the fifteenth World No. 1 in women's tennis since the computer rankings began. She is well known for her powerful one-handed backhand and strong net play. She officially announced her retirement from professional tennis on 3 December 2009, ending a career of fifteen years. In 2010 she started her career as a coach for several WTA and ATP players, including Andy Murray.

Skotnik finished in seventh position and ninth position respectively in the finals of the 2007 World Championships and 2009 World Championships. She was eliminated in the qualification rounds of the 2005 and 2011 World Championships.
At her first Olympics - the 2008 Summer Olympics, Skotnik fell 4 cm short of reaching the final after clearing 1.89 metres to finish joint 16th place in the qualification round. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she reached the final and finished in 9th place at 1.93m.
Skotnik's outdoor personal best jump is 1.96m, achieved on 11 August 2007 in Castres, which tied her with the French national outdoor record first set by Maryse Éwanjé-Épée on July 21, 1985. She has won several French Athletics Championships (outdoor and indoor) titles. However, she still competes in the German national championships as a member of LG Domspitzmilch Regensburg, but represents France internationally. Skotnik also holds the French national indoor record of 1.97m, achieved in Aubière on 18 February 2007 and in Dortmund in February 2003Skotnik married a French sprinter, Jimmy Melfort, in July 2009. She reverted to her maiden name in 2013, announcing that she was in the process of divorcing Jimmy Melfort, who had been her coach since 2005.

Marie Marchand-Arvier

Marie Marchand-Arvier (born 8 April 1985) is a retired World Cup alpine ski racer from France.  Born in Laxou, she won a silver medal in the super-G at the 2009 World Championships. She finished fifth in the combined, and sixth in the downhill.
Marchand-Arvier competed at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, where her best result was 15th in the downhill. At the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, she finished 7th in the downhill and tenth in the combined at Whistler Creekside.
Marchand-Arvier married former biathlete Vincent Jay in June 2014. In March 2015 she announced her retirement from competition.



Laure Manaudou

Laure Manaudou (French pronunciation: ​[lɔʁ manodu]; born 9 October 1986) is a retired French Olympic, world and European champion swimmer. She has held the world record in freestyle events between 200 and 1500 meter. She is the daughter of a French father and a Dutch mother, and she is the older sister of Florent Manaudou who is also an Olympic gold medalist swimmer.

Jeannie Longo

Jeannie Longo (born 31 October 1958 in Annecy, Haute-Savoie) is a French racing cyclist, 25-time French champion and 13-time world champion. Longo began racing in 1975 and was active in cycling through 2012. She was once widely considered the best female cyclist of all time, although that reputation is now clouded by suspicion of doping throughout her career. She is famous for her competitive nature and her longevity in a sport where some of her competitors were not yet born during her first Olympic competition in 1984.  She was selected to compete for France in the 2008 Olympics, her seventh Olympic Games. She had stated that this would be her final participation in the Olympics.
In the Women's road race, she finished 24th, 33 seconds behind winner Nicole Cooke, who was one year old when Longo first rode in the Olympics.
At the same Olympics, she finished 4th in the road time trial, just two seconds shy of securing a bronze medal. She is currently number two on the all-time list of French female summer or winter Olympic medal winners, with a total of four medals, which is one less than the total number won by the fencer Laura Flessel-Colovic.

Bouchra Ghezielle

Bouchra Ghézielle, née Ben Thami (Arabic: بُشرا غزال‎; born 19 May 1979), is a Moroccan-French track and field athlete, now competing for France. She competes mainly on the 1500 m distance but also on 800 m and 3000 m distances.
Born in Khemisset, she competed at the 2004 Olympic Games for Morocco. She won the bronze medals at the 1998 African Championships, the 1998 World Junior Championships and the 2005 World Championships, and finished fourth at the 2005 World Athletics Final.In 2008, she was found guilty of rh-EPO doping. The sample was delivered on 9 February 2008 in an out-of-competition test in Franconville. She received a suspension from May 2008 to May 2012.

Nathalie Péchalat

Nathalie Péchalat (born 22 December 1983) is a retired French ice dancer. With partner Fabian Bourzat, she is a two-time World bronze medalist (2012, 2014), a two-time European champion (2011–2012), and a five-time French national champion (2009, 2011-2014). They have won five medals at the Grand Prix Final (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013) and thirteen other Grand Prix medals, including three golds at Cup of China and two at Trophée Eric Bompard.

Suzanne Lenglen

Suzanne Rachel Flore Lenglen (24 May 1899 – 4 July 1938) was a French tennis player. Building off her status as the youngest major champion in tennis history, Lenglen's unusual graceful style of play and exuberant personality made her one of tennis's biggest stars in the 1920s. Often playing in front of sell-out crowds and appearing on the front pages of newspapers for her biggest matches, she is regarded by some as the first female athlete to become a global sport celebrity. Lenglen was ranked No. 1 in the world from 1921 through 1926, winning 8 Grand Slam singles titles and 21 in total. She also won 10 World Championship titles across all disciplines. Unsatisfied with her lack of income, she forfeited her amateur status and became the first women's tennis player to turn professional. Lenglen has been ranked by the Tennis Channel as the greatest women's tennis player from the amateur era.Born to wealthy parents in Paris, Lenglen began playing tennis at 11 years old. Coached primarily by her father Charles throughout her career, she quickly emerged as a child prodigy. She won her first major title at the 1914 World Hard Court Championships at the age of 15 with just four years of experience playing the sport. After World War I delayed her career for four years, Lenglen returned to competitive tennis in 1919 and won her Wimbledon debut in a classic final that finished as the second-longest in history by games played. Following the war, she was relatively unchallenged, only losing one match and ending her amateur career on a 181-match winning streak. She often won her matches by lopsided scores and never lost more than three games in a set in any of her 12 major singles finals apart from her first final at Wimbledon. 
Overall, Lenglen won six Wimbledon singles titles, including five in a row from 1919 through 1923, and also won triple crowns at the first two open French Championships in 1925 and 1926. Her only post-war loss came in a retirement against Molla Mallory in her only amateur match in the United States. Lenglen also had prolific careers in doubles and mixed doubles. She was undefeated with her regular doubles partner Elizabeth Ryan, highlighted by another six titles at Wimbledon. One of Lenglen's highest-profile matches towards the end of her career was her victory over Helen Wills in the Match of the Century, their only career meeting. Following a misunderstanding at Wimbledon in 1926, Lenglen abruptly retired from amateur tennis, signing to headline a five-month professional tour in the United States beginning later that year.

Laure Pequegnot

Laure Pequegnot (born 30 September 1975) is a French former Alpine skier.
She was born in Échirolles, Isère. She won a total of 3 Alpine skiing World Cup races, all in the slalom discipline.  She became world junior champion in slalom, in 1994.  She won World Cup discipline title, in slalom, in 2002.  She competed at three Winter Olympics, winning a silver medal in the Slalom event at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.

Sandrine Aubert

Sandrine Aubert (born 6 October 1982 in Échirolles, Isère) is a retired French alpine skier and a slalom specialist. After she was not selected for the French squad for the 2014 Winter Olympics, she announced her retirement from competition in February 2014.

Karine Laurent Philippot

Karine Laurent Philippot (born October 29, 1974 in Mulhouse as Karine Philippot) is a French cross country skier and non-commissioned officer who has competed since 1994. Her best World Cup finish was second in a 10 km event in China in 2007.
Laurent Philippot also competed in four Winter Olympics, earning her best finish of sixth in the 4 × 5 km relay at Vancouver in 2010. Her best finish at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships was sixth in the team sprint event at Oberstdorf in 2005.

Veronique Pierron

Veronique Pierron is a French short-track speed-skater.
Pierron competed at the 2010 Winter Olympics for France. She finished second in the first round of the 500 metres, advancing to the quarterfinals, where she finished fourth, failing to advance. She placed 14th overall.
As of 2013, Pierron's best finish at the World Championships is 6th, in the 1500 metres in 2012.
As of 2013, Pierron has not finished on the podium on the ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup. Her top World Cup ranking is 9th, in the 1000 metres in 2011–12.

Isabelle Delobel

Isabelle Delobel (born 17 June 1978) is a French former competitive ice dancer. With partner Olivier Schoenfelder, she is the 2008 World champion, the 2007 European champion, and the 2008 Grand Prix Final champion.
Delobel and Schoenfelder retired from competitive skating following the 2010 Winter Olympics, having skated together for two decades.
