Julius Axelrod was an American biochemist. He won a share of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1970 along with Bernard Katz and Ulf von Euler. The Nobel Committee honored him for his work on the release and reuptake of catecholamine neurotransmitters, a class of chemicals in the brain that include epinephrine, norepinephrine, and, as was later discovered, dopamine. Barnard is an American doctor, author, clinical researcher, and founding president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, an international network of doctors, scientists, and laypeople who promote preventive medicine, conduct clinical research, and promote higher standards in research. An advocate of a low-fat, whole foods, plant-based diet, he has also conducted research into alternatives to animal experimentation and has been active in the animal protection movement. Wayne Fenton was an American psychiatrist, well known for his academic contributions to the study of schizophrenia including key contributions to the classification of subtypes. In 2006 he was killed at his office in Bethesda, Maryland, by a 19-year-old patient. ...more
