Peter Budaj

Peter Budaj  ( boo-DY; born 18 September 1982) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey goaltender. He had previously played in the National Hockey League for the Colorado Avalanche, by whom he was drafted, the Montreal Canadiens, the Los Angeles Kings and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
He was known for having the popular character Ned Flanders from The Simpsons painted on his mask.

Andrej Sekera

Andrej Sekera (born June 8, 1986) is a Slovak professional ice hockey player currently under a contract with the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League (NHL). He Has formerly played for the Buffalo Sabres, Slovan Bratislava, Carolina Hurricanes, Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers. A defenceman, he was drafted in the third round, 71st overall, by the Sabres in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.



Marek Svatoš

Marek Svatoš (17 June 1982 – 5 November 2016)  was a Slovak professional ice hockey winger. He last played during the 2013–14 season in the Slovak Extraliga with Košice, the same club with which he began his career in 1999. Svatoš played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for several seasons, mostly with the Colorado Avalanche; his last stint in the NHL was in the 2010–11 season, during which he played with the Nashville Predators and Ottawa Senators after beginning the season in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) with Avangard Omsk.

Pavol Demitra

Pavol Demitra (Slovak pronunciation: [ˈpaʋɔl ˈdɛmitɾa]; 29 November 1974 – 7 September 2011) was a Slovak professional ice hockey player. He played nineteen seasons of professional hockey, for teams in the Czechoslovak First Ice Hockey League (CSL), National Hockey League (NHL), Slovak Extraliga (SVK), and Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). A skilled offensive player, Demitra was a top-line forward throughout his career.
After a season with HC Dukla Trenčín in the CSL, Demitra was selected 227th overall in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators. He subsequently left Slovakia to join the Senators organization, spending three seasons split between team and their American Hockey League affiliate. A contract holdout at the start of the 1996–97 season saw Demitra traded to the St. Louis Blues. Demitra had his most successful seasons with St. Louis, being selected for three NHL All-Star Games and winning the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy in 2000. He scored at least 30 goals three times and 90 points once while with the Blues. During the 2004–05 NHL lockout, Demitra returned to HC Dukla Trenčín for, and upon returning to the NHL the following year, he signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Kings. After one season with Los Angeles, he was traded to the Minnesota Wild, where he played for two further seasons before signing with the Vancouver Canucks, and spent his last two NHL seasons with the team. In 2010 Demitra signed with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the KHL, playing one season there before dying in the 2011 air crash that involved most of the team prior to the 2011–12 KHL season.
Internationally, Demitra played in junior tournaments with the Czechoslovakian national junior team. He won a gold medal at the 1992 IIHF European U18 Championship and a bronze medal at the 1993 IIHF World U20 Championship. After the country split in 1993, Demitra began competing for Slovakia. Beginning in 1996, he played in six IIHF World Championships, winning a bronze medal in 2003 and captaining his country in 2011. He also played in the 1996 and 2004 World Cup of Hockey. Demitra also played in three Winter Olympics: 2002 2006 (where he was captain of the Slovak team), and 2010, where he led all scorers in points and was named to the tournament's All-Star Team.

Ľubomír Višňovský

Ľubomír Višňovský (Slovak pronunciation: [ˈʎubɔmiːɾ ˈʋiʃɲɔʊ̯skiː]; born 11 August 1976) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey defenceman. He began and finished his career with his hometown club, HC Slovan Bratislava of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He played 14 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers, Anaheim Ducks and the New York Islanders.

Zdeno Chára

Zdeno Chára (Slovak pronunciation: [ˈzdɛnɔ ˈxaːra]; born 18 March 1977) is a Slovak professional ice hockey defenseman who serves as captain of the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL). He won the James Norris Memorial Trophy while playing for the Bruins in the 2008–09 season. Standing at 6 feet 9 inches (2.06 m) tall, Chára is the tallest person ever to play in the NHL. He is also the second European-born and raised captain to win the Stanley Cup (in 2011), and the first born and trained in a country within the Iron Curtain. Chára is also the oldest active NHL player at 42 years.

Ľuboš Bartečko

Ľuboš Bartečko (born July 14, 1976) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey forward. He began and concluded his career with hometown club, HK ŠKP Poprad in the Slovak Extraliga. He most notably played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the St. Louis Blues and Atlanta Thrashers. He also competed at three Winter Olympics.

Ivan Baranka

Ivan Baranka (born 19 May 1985) is a Slovak ice hockey defenceman currently playing with HC Kometa Brno in the Czech Extraliga.

Marcel Hossa

Marcel Hossa (Slovak pronunciation: [ˈmaɾtsɛl ˈɦɔsa]; born October 12, 1981) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey left winger. Hossa previously played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers and Phoenix Coyotes, having been drafted by the Canadiens in the first round, 16th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
Hossa has also played in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) for Dinamo Riga, Ak Bars Kazan and Spartak Moscow. Internationally, Hossa has represented Slovakia on several occasions, including at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics.
Hossa's older brother is Marián Hossa, also a professional ice hockey player and three-time Stanley Cup champion who is currently a member of the Arizona Coyotes however is unlikely to play professionally again due to a medical condition and plans to retire once his contract expires.

Dominik Graňák

Dominik Graňák (born June 11, 1983), is a Slovak professional ice hockey defenceman, currently playing for HC Karlovy Vary of the Czech Extraliga.
On November 4, 2014, Graňák signed a one-year contract in returning to the SHL with Linköpings HC. He joined the club as a free agent after four seasons with Russian club, HC Dynamo Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League.He has represented Slovakia in four IIHF World Championships, including 2007.

Ján Lašák (born April 10, 1979) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey goaltender.
Lašák was drafted by the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League (NHL) in the 2nd round (65th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft and spent the following four seasons in North America before returning to Europe in 2003.

Jaroslav Halák

Jaroslav Halák (Slovak pronunciation: [ˈjaɾɔslaʊ̯ ˈɦalaːk]; born 13 May 1985) is a Slovak professional ice hockey goaltender who is currently playing with the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League (NHL). Halák was the 271st overall pick by the Montreal Canadiens in the ninth and final round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Halák first played for the Canadiens during the 2006–07 season, and remained with the team until being traded to the St. Louis Blues after the 2009–10 season. He played for the Blues until the 2013–14 season when he was traded to the Buffalo Sabres. Before playing a game with the Sabres, he was traded to the Washington Capitals, whom he only played for in 12 games before his rights were once again traded, this time to the New York Islanders. He signed a four-year contract with the Islanders in May 2014, and signed with the Bruins after that contract expired.

Michal Handzuš

Michal Handzuš (Slovak pronunciation: [ˈmixal ˈɦandzuʃ]; born 11 March 1977) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey centre. Handzuš played for hometown club, HC ’05 Banská Bystrica of the Slovak Extraliga before joining the National Hockey League (NHL) in 1998. Handzuš played for the St. Louis Blues, Phoenix Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks and the Chicago Blackhawks, with whom he won the Stanley Cup with in 2013.
Handzuš represented Slovakia at several international ice hockey tournaments, including the 2002, 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics.

Tomáš Kopecký

Tomáš Kopecký (Slovak pronunciation: [ˈtomaːʃ ˈkopɛtskiː]; born February 5, 1982) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey right winger. He played in the National Hockey League with the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks and Florida Panthers. He won the Stanley Cup with both the Red Wings and Blackhawks.

René Vydarený

René Vydarený (born May 6, 1981 in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia) is a Slovak professional ice hockey defenceman currently with HC České Budějovice of the Czech Extraliga. Vydarený was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft and then played one season with the Rimouski Océanic of the QMJHL. He spent several years in the minor leagues of North America, playing for the Kansas City Blades, the Columbia Inferno, the Manitoba Moose and the Hamilton Bulldogs before returning to Europe in 2004. Vydarený has also played for the Slovak national team in several international tournaments.

Milan Jurčina

Milan Jurčina (Slovak pronunciation: [ˈmilan ˈjuɾtʃina]; born June 7, 1983) is a Slovak professional ice hockey defenceman who is currently an unrestricted free agent. He most recently played for the Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). He has previously played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Boston Bruins (the organization that drafted him 241st overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft), Washington Capitals, Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Islanders. Internationally, he has played for the Slovak national team.

Richard Pánik (Slovak pronunciation: [ˈɾixaɾt ˈpaːɲik]; born 7 February 1991) is a Slovak professional ice hockey right winger for the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL). Pánik was drafted in the second round, 52nd overall, in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Ladislav Ščurko (born April 4, 1986 in Gelnica) is a Slovak professional ice hockey center who currently plays for HC 07 Detva in Slovak Extraliga. He previously played for HC Košice until he confessed to a murder of an ice hockey referee in April 2009.

Branko Radivojevič (Serbian: Бранко Радивојевић / Branko Radivojević; born November 24, 1980) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey forward who began and finished his career playing for HK Dukla Trenčín of the Slovak Extraliga (Slovak). He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Phoenix Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers and Minnesota Wild. His Serbian father Matija came to Czechoslovakia during the 1970s as a contractor of a Yugoslavian company.

Peter Bondra (Slovak pronunciation: [ˈpɛtɛɾ ˈbɔndɾa]; born February 7, 1968) is a Soviet-born Slovak former professional ice hockey player. He was the general manager of the Slovakia national team from 2007 to 2011. A two-time 50-goal scorer, Bondra became the 37th player in National Hockey League (NHL) history to score 500 NHL goals.



Žigmund Pálffy

Žigmund Pálffy (Slovak pronunciation: [ˈʒiɡmunt ˈpaːlfi]; born May 5, 1972) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey player. He was nicknamed "Žigo" in Slovak and "Ziggy" in English.
He played right wing for the New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings, and Pittsburgh Penguins between 1993 to 2006. He announced his retirement in January 2006, and his comeback from retirement in the summer of 2007. Pálffy signed a contract to play for his boyhood club HK 36 Skalica in the 2007–08 season and continued to do so until the end of his career. He also retracted his decision from 2005 never to play for the Slovak national team again by participating at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, where he was also the flagbearer. In July 2013, he announced his definite retirement.
