Peter Forsberg

Peter Mattias "Foppa" Forsberg (pronounced [ˈpeːtɛr ²fɔʂːbærj] (listen); born 20 July 1973) is a Swedish retired professional ice hockey player and was for a time assistant general manager of Modo Hockey. Known for his on-ice vision and physical play, Forsberg is considered one of the greatest players of all time. Although his career was shortened by persistent injuries, as of 2014, he stands eighth all-time in career points-per-game and fourth all-time in career assists-per-game in the NHL, only behind Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Bobby Orr. In 2017 Forsberg was named one of the '100 Greatest NHL Players' in history.His 19-year professional career includes 13 years in the National Hockey League (NHL), where he won two Stanley Cups with the Colorado Avalanche, as well as several individual honors including the Hart Memorial Trophy in 2003. As of the end of the 2017–18 season, he is the seventh-highest all-time Swedish point scorer in the NHL regular season. Before his short-lived comeback season in 2011, Forsberg never had a negative plus-minus rating, giving him an overall career rating of +238.
Representing Sweden in international play, Forsberg competed in four Winter Olympics, two World Cups and five World Championships, as well as one European Junior Championship and two World Junior Championships, where he holds a scoring record of 31 points in seven games that some say may never be broken. He won four gold medals with Sweden in his career, winning titles at the 1992 and 1998 World Championships and the 1994 and 2006 Winter Olympics. Combined with his two Stanley Cup championships in NHL play, he is a member of the Triple Gold Club and the only Swede who has won each of the three competitions twice. In 2013, he was inducted to the IIHF Hall of Fame, and in 2014, he was elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Nicklas Lidström

Nicklas Lidström (pronounced [ˈnɪkːlas ²liːdstrœm]; born 28 April 1970) is a Swedish former professional ice hockey defenceman who played 20 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Detroit Red Wings, which he captained for the final six seasons of his career. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest defenceman in NHL history.
Over his 20 NHL seasons, Lidström won four Stanley Cup championships, seven James Norris Memorial Trophies (awarded to the NHL's top defenceman), one Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP, and was voted into 12 NHL All-Star Games. The Red Wings never missed the postseason during his career, the longest in league history for a player never missing the playoffs. Lidström was the first European-born-and-trained captain of a Stanley Cup winning team, as well as the first European player named playoff MVP. Lidström is also the all-time leader in games played with only one NHL team and by a European-born player. Lidström was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on 9 November 2015. In 2017 Lidström was named one of the '100 Greatest NHL Players' in history.

Ulf Samuelsson

Ulf Bo Samuelsson (born March 26, 1964) is a retired Swedish-American professional ice hockey defenceman.  He played several seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Hartford Whalers, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, and Philadelphia Flyers. He is a two-time Stanley Cup champion, as a member of the Penguins in 1991 and 1992.

Patrik Berglund

Patrik Berglund (born 2 June 1988) is a Swedish professional ice hockey centre is currently playing for Djurgårdens IF of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). He was drafted 25th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Internationally, Berglund represented Team Sweden on both the junior and senior levels, including playing on the team that won silver at the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Joel Lundqvist

Joel Per Lundqvist (born 2 March 1982) is a Swedish professional ice hockey centre for Frölunda HC of Swedish Hockey League (SHL). He serves as the team's captain. He is the identical twin brother of the New York Rangers' goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. He previously played in the National Hockey League for the Dallas Stars from 2006 to 2009.

He was drafted out of Sweden's third-tier ice hockey league by the Canucks in the third round, 91st overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, and played junior ice hockey with Modo Hockey of the J20 SuperElit and the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League (WHL).
Edler turned professional in North America with the Canucks' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Manitoba Moose, in 2006–07, seeing some time in the NHL over the course of the season. He became a full-time member of the Canucks the following season, and has since been named to one NHL All-Star Game (2012).
Internationally, Edler has competed for Sweden on four occasions: at the 2006 World Junior Championships, the 2008 and 2013 IIHF World Championships (winning gold) and the 2014 Winter Olympics (winning silver). Edler is an offensive defenceman noted for his calm on-ice demeanor and strong slapshot.

Henrik Lundqvist

Henrik Lundqvist (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈhɛnːrɪk ²lɵnːdkvɪst]; born 2 March 1982) is a Swedish professional ice hockey goaltender for the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL). Before winning the Vezina Trophy in 2012, he was nominated in each of his first three seasons, and is the only goaltender in NHL history to record 11 30-win seasons in his first 12 seasons. He holds the record for most wins by a European-born goaltender in the NHL. His dominating play during his rookie season resulted in the New York media and Rangers fans giving him the nickname "King Henrik". During the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, he led the Swedish men's team to their second Olympic gold medal.
Before joining the Rangers, Lundqvist played for Frölunda HC in Swedish Elitserien. During his years in Sweden, he developed into the league's finest goaltender, winning the Honken Trophy three consecutive seasons; 2003, 2004, and 2005. In 2005, he also won two of the most prestigious awards in Swedish ice hockey, the Guldpucken (Golden Puck) and the Guldhjälmen (Golden Helmet).
Lundqvist is considered a butterfly style goalie, though unorthodox because of the aggressive way he performs the butterfly. He is best known for his strong positional play, mental toughness, and upright torso stance.  He has received criticism from fellow NHL goaltenders as well for his lack of depth control and over-reliance on positioning over hand-eye reflexes.

Johan Franzén

Johan Franzén (pronounced [²juːan franˈseːn] (listen); born 23 December 1979) is a Swedish former professional ice hockey winger under contract to the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL). He is a Stanley Cup champion with the Red Wings in 2008. Franzén was originally drafted by the Red Wings in the third round, 97th overall, of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Franzen has not played since early in the 2015–16 season because of concussions.



Victor Hedman

Victor Erik Olof Hedman (pronounced [ˈvɪkːtɔr ˈheːdman]; born 18 December 1990) is a Swedish professional ice hockey defenceman, an alternate captain for the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League (NHL). Hedman was selected second overall by the Lightning in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Hedman is a two-time James Norris Memorial Trophy finalist, being nominated in 2017 and 2018, winning in the later year.

Johan "Moose" Hedberg (born 5 May 1973) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey goaltender. He is currently the goaltending coach and the assistant coach of the San Jose Sharks.

Tomas Holmström

Bengt Tomas Holmström (pronounced [ˈtʊmːas ²hɔlːmstrœm]; born 23 January 1973) is a Swedish former professional ice hockey left winger who played his entire National Hockey League (NHL) career with the Detroit Red Wings, with whom he won four Stanley Cup championships; in 1997, 1998, 2002 and 2008.
During his playing career, Holmström was widely considered as one of the NHL's best at screening the opposition's goaltender, as well as for his physical presence in front of the opposition's net.

Niklas Andersson

Niklas Per Andersson (born 20 May 1971) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey left winger. In his career, he spent time with several National Hockey League (NHL) teams as well as various minor professional teams in North America, but mostly played for Frölunda HC in the Swedish Elitserien.
He is the younger brother of former hockey player Mikael Andersson and the father of New York Rangers player Lias Andersson.

Johnny Oduya

David Johnny Oduya  (born 1 October 1981), is a Swedish professional ice hockey defenceman who is currently an unrestricted free agent. He most recently played with the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He is of Kenyan Luo descent on his father's side. Oduya is a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013 and 2015.

Kim Martin Hasson

Kim Kristine Martin Hasson (born 28 February 1986) is a goaltender for the Sweden women's national ice hockey team. She plays her club hockey with AIK's women's team and has also played with Hammarby IF's junior men's team. As of the 2005–06 season she belongs to Malmö Redhawks of the men's second tier league, and she was scheduled to make her debut at that level on 8 March 2006, as the first woman ever in Sweden. However, this move was vetoed by the University of Minnesota Duluth, the U.S. school that had offered her a scholarship to play hockey. This was because the NCAA, the main governing body for U.S. college sports, prohibits athletes at its member schools from having previously played in a professional league, even if they are not paid.

Mikael Backlund

Mikael Backlund (born 17 March 1989) is a Swedish professional ice hockey centre currently playing for and serving as an alternate captain for the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL). Backlund was a first round selection, 24th overall, of the Flames in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, and made his NHL debut in 2008–09. He played junior hockey for VIK Västerås HK in the J20 SuperElit and the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League (WHL). He was a member of Kelowna's WHL championship team in 2009.
Internationally, Backlund has represented Sweden on several occasions—he was a member of two silver medal-winning teams at the World Junior Championship, and has won a bronze, silver and gold medals with the Swedes at the World Championship.

Jonathan Ericsson

Jonathan Ericsson (born 2 March 1984) is a Swedish professional ice hockey defenceman currently playing for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL). Ericsson was drafted in the ninth round, 291st overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, the final pick of the draft. He has played his entire NHL career with the Red Wings organization. He won the Stanley Cup with the Red Wings in 2008.
