Rock stars don't always have fantasy lives. Tragically, many notable singers have committed suicide. Some of these musicians who killed themselves did so after suffering from depression for many years; the demise of others came as a shock to their fans. A few of these famous musician suicides have even inspired conspiracy theories - what if their supposed suicides were actually cover-ups for foul play?

When you think of famous musicians who committed suicide, Kurt Cobain must come to mind. The Nirvana frontman killed himself with a shotgun in Seattle on April 5, 1994. He had long suffered from depression and heroin addiction. Melancholy musician Nick Drake overdosed in 1974 in an apparent suicide. His music has only grown in popularity after his death.

INXS singer Michael Hutchence choked to death in an apparent suicide in 1997. He was found naked with a belt around his neck, leading some to belief that his death may have been an accidental result of auto-erotic asphyxiation. He was reported to have made several "dark" phone calls in the hours leading up to his death.

On July 20, 2017, Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington hung himself at his California home. He died on Chris Cornell's birthday, the lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave and a close friend. Cornell had also committed suicide on two months earlier on May 18.
