Christel Goltz was a German operatic soprano. One of the leading dramatic sopranos of her generation, she possessed a rich voice with a brilliant range and intensity. She was particularly associated with the operas of Richard Strauss, especially Salome and Elektra, and with contemporary operas. Born in Dortmund, she studied in Munich with Ornelli-Leeb and with Theodor Schenk, whom she later married. After singing small roles, she made her official debut in Fuerth, as Agathe, in 1935. Eberhard Wächter was an Austrian baritone, particularly celebrated for his performances in the operas of Mozart, Richard Wagner, and Richard Strauss. After retiring from singing, he became Intendant of the Vienna Volksoper and the Vienna State Opera. Born in Vienna, Wächter studied at the University of Vienna and the Vienna Academy of Music. In 1953, he began voice lessons with Elisabeth Radó. That same year he made his operatic debut, as Silvio in Ruggiero Leoncavallo's Pagliacci, at the Vienna Volksoper. Fritzi Massary was an Austrian-American actress and soprano singer. Born as Friederike Massaryk, she was one of the leading operetta singers in Berlin and Vienna. She was closely associated with Oscar Straus, creating roles in six of his operettas, including Der letzte Walzer in 1920. Despite her 1903 conversion to Protestantism, Massary fled Germany in late 1932 because of her Jewish heritage. She traveled through Austria and Switzerland to London, where she was befriended by Sir Noël Coward and starred in his Operette in 1938.
