List of Famous Order of the Buffaloes Members ranked by fame and popularity. The Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes is amongst the largest fraternal organizations in the United Kingdom. Although the organization was founded in 1822, the Order of the Buffaloes credit many famous individuals who predate the origin as members. The Order of the Buffaloes started as a drinking club, but quickly took influence from the Freemasons and became more of a secret society.

Who is the most famous Order of the Buffaloes member. Playwright William Shakespeare tops our list. Early Buffalo literature names Shakespeare as a member along with Noah, Solomon, King Richard I and many others. The Order of the Buffaloes even named one of their lodges after the “Romeo and Juliet” scribe.

 The only woman to be credited as a Buffaloess was Elizabeth I of England. Queen Elizabeth was very popular during her reign as Queen and she adapted the nicknamed “Good Queen Bess.” She was the daughter of King Henry VIII and his second wife Anne Boleyn. Queen Elizabeth was the last monarch of the Tudor Dynasty.
