Paul Johannes Roos was one of the first South African Springbok rugby union captains and led the first South African rugby team to tour overseas – to Britain in 1906. Roos was born near the South African town of Stellenbosch on 30 October 1880 and completed his education there. Roos was a popular rugby player and was chosen by his own teammates to captain the 1906 tour. Throughout the tour he was articulate and gracious in victory and defeat, and saw the campaign as an attempt to improve the relationship between his fellow countrymen and the British after the events of the Second Boer War. Francois Hougaard is a professional South African rugby union rugby player. His primary position is scrumhalf, but in recent times his pace has seen him being deployed on the wing for the Bulls. He was born in Paarl, South Africa and his first tour with the Springboks was to France, Italy, Ireland and England in late 2009 where he played in one test against Italy on 21 November 2009 and two touring matches. Andries Bekker is a South African rugby union player for the Springbok rugby team as well as Kobelco Steelers in the Japanese Top League. Bekker made his South African debut in 2008 against Wales in a 43–17 victory in Bloemfontein. At 6'11" he is one of the tallest international rugby players, but he only made the Springbok side regularly after the retirement of locks Bakkies Botha and Victor Matfield. He is the son of former Springbok International Hennie Bekker who was also a lock. Holding the record for being the tallest Springbok in history, Andries Bekker was an imposing figure in the DHL Stormers lineout.
