Hugo Chávez

Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías (, Spanish pronunciation: [ˈuɣo rafaˈel ˈtʃaβes ˈfɾi.as] (listen); 28 July 1954 – 5 March 2013) was a Venezuelan politician who was president of Venezuela from 1999 until his death in 2013. Chávez was also leader of the Fifth Republic Movement political party from its foundation in 1997 until 2007, when it merged with several other parties to form the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), which he led until 2012.
Born into a middle class family in Sabaneta, Barinas, Chávez became a career military officer, and after becoming dissatisfied with the Venezuelan political system based on the Puntofijo Pact, he founded the clandestine Revolutionary Bolivarian Movement-200 (MBR-200) in the early 1980s. Chávez led the MBR-200 in an unsuccessful coup d'état against the Democratic Action government of President Carlos Andrés Pérez in 1992, for which he was imprisoned. Pardoned from prison after two years, he founded a political party known as the Fifth Republic Movement and was elected president of Venezuela in 1998. He was re-elected in 2000 and again in 2006 with over 60% of the votes. After winning his fourth term as president in the October 2012 presidential election, he was to be sworn in on 10 January 2013, but Venezuela's National Assembly postponed the inauguration to allow him time to recover from medical treatment in Cuba. Suffering a return of the cancer originally diagnosed in June 2011, Chávez died in Caracas on 5 March 2013 at the age of 58.Following the adoption of a new constitution in 1999, Chávez focused on enacting social reforms as part of the Bolivarian Revolution. Using record-high oil revenues of the 2000s, his government nationalized key industries, created participatory democratic Communal Councils and implemented social programs known as the Bolivarian missions to expand access to food, housing, healthcare and education. Venezuela received high oil profits in the mid-2000s, resulting in temporary improvements in areas such as poverty, literacy, income equality and quality of life occurring primarily between 2003 and 2007, though these gains started to reverse after 2012 and it has been argued that government policies did not address structural inequalities.On 2 June 2010, Chávez declared an "economic war" due to shortages in Venezuela, arguably beginning the crisis in Bolivarian Venezuela. By the end of Chávez's presidency in the early 2010s, economic actions performed by his government during the preceding decade such as deficit spending and price controls proved to be unsustainable, with Venezuela's economy faltering while poverty, inflation and shortages increased. Chávez's presidency also saw significant increases in the country's murder rate and continued corruption within the police force and government. His use of enabling acts and his government's use of propaganda were also controversial.Internationally, Chávez aligned himself with the Marxist–Leninist governments of Fidel and then Raúl Castro in Cuba, as well as the socialist governments of Evo Morales (Bolivia), Rafael Correa (Ecuador) and Daniel Ortega (Nicaragua). His presidency was seen as a part of the socialist "pink tide" sweeping Latin America. Chávez described his policies as anti-imperialist, being a prominent adversary of the United States's foreign policy as well as a vocal critic of U.S.-supported neoliberalism and laissez-faire capitalism. He described himself as a Marxist. He supported Latin American and Caribbean cooperation and was instrumental in setting up the pan-regional Union of South American Nations, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas, the Bank of the South and the regional television network TeleSUR. Chavez's ideas, programs, and style form the basis of "Chavismo", a political ideology closely associated with Bolivarianism and socialism of the 21st century.

Antonio José de Sucre

Antonio José de Sucre y Alcalá (Spanish pronunciation: [anˈtonjo xoˈse ðe ˈsukɾe j alkaˈla] (listen); 1795–1830), known as the "Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho" (English: "Grand Marshal of Ayacucho"), was a Venezuelan independence leader who served as the fourth President of Peru and the second President of Bolivia. Sucre was one of Simón Bolívar's closest friends, generals and statesmen. The city of Sucre, Bolivia's capital, is named for him, as is a state of Venezuela and a department of Colombia. Both the old and new airports of Ecuador's capital Quito are also named after him. Ecuador’s former currency the “Sucre” was also named after him.



Miguel Cabrera

José Miguel Cabrera Torres (born April 18, 1983), commonly known as Miguel Cabrera and nicknamed "Miggy", is a Venezuelan professional baseball player. He is the first baseman for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB). Since his debut in 2003 he has been a two-time American League (AL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) award winner, a four-time AL batting champion, and an 11-time MLB All-Star. He has played at first and third base for most of his major league career, but primarily played left and right field before 2006. He claimed the 17th MLB Triple Crown in 2012, the first to do so in 45 seasons.
In Venezuelan Winter League, Liga de Beisbol Profesional de Venezuela, Cabrera was signed by Tigres de Aragua at 16 years old. He batted his first hit in LVBP on December 1999.Cabrera was signed in 1999 as an amateur free agent by the Florida Marlins, and progressed through their minor league system. He made his MLB debut in mid-2003 at the age of 20, and contributed to the Marlins' World Series success later that year. Over the next four seasons, Cabrera was a regular player for the Marlins before being traded to the Detroit Tigers in late 2007. In 2012, Cabrera became the first player since 1967 to win the batting Triple Crown, leading the AL with a .330 batting average, 44 home runs, and 139 runs batted in (RBIs), earning him the AL MVP award that year. In 2013, Cabrera improved on his previous year's batting performance, including a career-high .348 batting average, and received another AL MVP award.
Cabrera has hit 30 or more home runs in ten separate seasons, driven in over 100 runs in 12 separate seasons (including 11 consecutive seasons, 2004–14), and had a career .316 batting average through 2018. Through 2018, he had the 25th-highest career slugging percentage of all baseball players (.551).

Aída Yéspica

Aída María Yéspica Jaime (Spanish pronunciation: [aˈiða maˈɾi.a ˈʝespika ˈxaime]) (born on 15 July 1982 in Barquisimeto, Venezuela) is a Venezuelan television personality, model, actress and former beauty pageant contestant active in show business in Venezuela, Italy, Spain and United States simply as Aída Yéspica. Considered a sex symbol of the 2000s and 2010s, due to her considerable beauty and charm,  she has participated in variety and reality shows, acted in films and TV programs, posed for several nude calendars, and appeared in television commercials. The tabloid press in Italy and abroad have followed developments in her career and personal life.

Simón Bolívar

Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar Palacios Ponte y Blanco (24 July 1783 – 17 December 1830), generally known as Simón Bolívar (Spanish: [siˈmom boˈliβaɾ] (listen), English:  BOL-iv-ər, -⁠ar also US:  BOH-liv-ar) and also colloquially as El Libertador,  or the Liberator, was a Venezuelan military and political leader who led the secession of what are currently the states of Venezuela, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Panama from the Spanish Empire.
Bolívar was born into a wealthy, aristocratic Criollo family and, as was common for the heirs of upper-class families in his day, was sent to be educated abroad at a young age, arriving in Spain when he was 16 and later moving to France. While in Europe, he was introduced to the ideas of the Enlightenment, which later motivated him to overthrow the reigning Spanish in colonial South America. Taking advantage of the disorder in Spain prompted by the Peninsular War, Bolívar began his campaign for independence in 1808. The campaign for the independence of New Granada was consolidated with the victory at the Battle of Boyacá on 7 August 1819. Later he established an organized national congress within three years. Despite a number of hindrances, including the arrival of an unprecedentedly large Spanish expeditionary force, the revolutionaries eventually prevailed, culminating in the patriot victory at the Battle of Carabobo in 1821, which effectively made Venezuela an independent country.
Following this triumph over the Spanish monarchy, Bolívar participated in the foundation of the first union of independent nations in Latin America, Gran Colombia, of which he was president from 1819 to 1830. Through further military campaigns, he ousted Spanish rulers from Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, the last of which was named after him. He was simultaneously president of Gran Colombia (present-day Venezuela, Colombia, Panama and Ecuador), Peru, and Bolivia, but soon after, his second-in-command, Antonio José de Sucre, was appointed president of Bolivia. Bolívar aimed at a strong and united Spanish America able to cope not only with the threats emanating from Spain and the European Holy Alliance but also with the emerging power of the United States. At the peak of his power, Bolívar ruled over a vast territory from the Argentine border to the Caribbean Sea.
Bolívar fought 472 battles of which 79 were important ones, and during his campaigns rode on horseback 123,000 kilometers, which is 10 times more than Hannibal, three times more than Napoleon, and twice as much as Alexander the Great. Bolívar is viewed as a national icon in much of modern South America, and is considered one of the great heroes of the Hispanic independence movements of the early 19th century, along with José de San Martín, Francisco de Miranda and others. Towards the end of his life, Bolívar despaired of the situation in his native region, with the famous quote "all who served the revolution have plowed the sea". In an address to the Constituent Congress of the Republic of Colombia, Bolívar stated "Fellow citizens! I blush to say this: Independence is the only benefit we have acquired, to the detriment of all the rest."

She was born in the city of Valencia, Venezuela and lived in Poland until her adolescence. She then moved back to Venezuela to pursue pageantry, before returning for good to Poland.
She is noted for being the second former contestant of the Miss Venezuela pageant (after Natascha Börger) to win the right to represent another country at the Miss Universe pageant.

Alicia Machado

Yoseph Alicia Machado Fajardo (Spanish pronunciation: [aˈlisja maˈtʃaðo]; born December 6, 1976) is a Venezuelan-American actress, TV host, singer and beauty queen who was Miss Venezuela 1995 and then Miss Universe 1996. She was the fourth woman from Venezuela to be named Miss Universe.
During the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign, Machado publicly criticized the prior behavior of Donald Trump who owned the Miss Universe pageant during her reign. She was mentioned by Hillary Clinton during the first 2016 U.S. presidential debate.

Christina Dieckmann

Christina Dieckmann Jiménez (born April 22, 1977) is a Venezuelan model, actress, who participated in Miss Venezuela 1997 where she won a chance to go to Miss World. She then became a model and has worked for numerous advertising campaigns in Venezuela, U.S. and Brazil including Diet Pepsi. She has also appeared in a variety of soap operas including as Cibele in Seus Olhos  in Brazil and Dama y Obrero (2013 telenovela) in United States and in many other soap operas.

Félix Hernández

Félix Abraham Graham Hernández García (born April 8, 1986), nicknamed "King Félix", is a Venezuelan-American professional baseball starting pitcher for the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2005.
On August 15, 2012, he threw the 23rd perfect game in Major League Baseball history against the Tampa Bay Rays in a 1–0 victory at Safeco Field. It was also the first perfect game in Seattle Mariners franchise history. His perfect game remains the most recent in Major League Baseball.
On April 23, 2016, Hernandez claimed the record for most strikeouts by a Mariners pitcher when he struck out Rafael Ortega of the Los Angeles Angels for his 2,163rd strikeout as a Mariner pitcher.  The previous record of 2,162 strikeouts had been held by Randy Johnson. His 146th win, which occurred on May 9, gave him the club record in that category as well, surpassing Jamie Moyer.

Gabriella Ferrari Peirano is a Venezuelan beauty pageant titleholder. At the Miss Venezuela 2011 pageant she placed 2nd to Irene Esser, earning the title Miss Venezuela Mundo. She represented Venezuela in Miss World 2012, in Ordos, China, where she was unplaced.
Ferrari also represented Venezuela in the Reinado Internacional del Café 2012, in Manizales, Colombia, on January 8, 2012, and won the title of 2nd runner up.

Vanessa Peretti

Vanessa Jackeline Gómez Peretti (born March 21, 1986) is a model and Miss Venezuela International 2006. She is 1.80 m (5 ft 11 in) tall.Peretti was the first deaf woman to compete in the Miss Venezuela pageant, when she represented the Sucre state. She competed in Miss International 2007 on October 15 in Japan against another deaf woman, Sophie Vouzelaud from France. Peretti classified in Top 15 semifinalists. It is the first time in the history of Miss International that two deaf contestants participated in the event.

María de Luz Da Silva

María De Luz Da Silva Dos Santos (born May 10, 1990, in Maracay, Aragua, Venezuela) is a model and a pageant titleholder who represented Mérida state in the Miss Venezuela 2009 pageant on September 24, 2009, and placed in the 10 semifinalists. She won two titles: Miss Personality and Miss Photogenic. Da Silva studies international trade at the Simón Bolívar University in Caracas.
She competed in Miss Friendship International 2009, in Wuhan (China), on November 7, 2009, and classified in the top 15 semifinalists.

He played with the Cincinnati Reds for nineteen years (1970–1988) including their back-to-back World Series championship seasons in 1975 and 1976.
