    The former face of Coach and Ann Taylor, American model Audrey Lindvall died in 2006 while on a bike ride with her friend in Missouri. She accidentally ran into a curb next to a convenience store when she was thrown under the wheels of a moving gas tanker truck. She was 23 years old.

  • Fabio Casartelli was an Italian gold medalist and cyclist who died while in the 15th stage of the Tour de France in 1995. He, along with several other cyclists, crashed while descending on the Col de Portet d'Aspet. He hit his head on concrete blocks and was helicoptered to a hospital, but was confirmed dead before getting there. He was not wearing a helmet, and doctors concluded that he could have been saved had he been wearing one.

  • Andrey Kivilev was a Kazakhstan cyclist who died during the Paris-Nice race when he collided with two other competitors and fell. The other competitors only sustained minor injuries, but Kivilev suffered from serious head injuries, falling into a coma immediately, as well as having two broken ribs. He died later that night in 2003. He was not wearing a helmet.

    Isaac Gálvez, a spanish road racer, was competing in the 2006 Six Days of Ghent in Belgium when he collided with Dimitri De Fauw and crashed into the railing. He died later from internal bleeding.
