A couple decades ago, a list of famous people smoking weed on live TV would have been virtually non-existent. The fact that we could put together a list of this many famous people smoking weed on TV illustrates how far we’ve progressed from the days of reefer madness.
Some celebrities toked up together on live TV to make a political statement. Others do it for fun. Either way, famous people using cannabis while broadcasting on live TV should help remove the stigma surrounding marijuana.

Earlier this year, Bill Maher lit a joint and smoked it with rapper Killer Mike, who is a long-time marijuana advocate. The sesh was aired on an episode of HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher.” Before sparking up, Bill said, “I use medical marijuana because my third eye has glaucoma.” He added: “This is private property, and I do have a card.”
In a first for American talk shows, Bill Maher and Killer Mike advocated for legal marijuana on national television and then lit up. He never got fined.
UFC fighter Nate Diaz decided to puff on a vape pen during a post-fight press conference. The move immediately established him as a high-profile athlete who regularly uses cannabis. And we don’t blame him — he was pretty banged up. His eyes were nearly swollen shut and he had a gash on his nose.
He wasn’t shy about what he was doing, either. He could have lied and pretended it was an e-cigarette but he told reporters “It’s CBD.” CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of the most important cannabinoids produced by weed. It;s responsible for a lot of the plant’s medical properties.
Diaz was puffing on a form of concentrated CBD that doesn’t get you high, but that does give users a lot of health benefits. The MMA fighter used the press conference as an opportunity to educate people about cannabinoids like CBD.
“It helps with the healing process and inflammation and stuff like that,” he explained. “So you wanna get these for before, after the fight, training. It’ll make your life a better place."

The late and great Joan Rivers is another example of famous people willing to blaze on TV. In fact, she once got completely blasted on her reality TV show. She started out ripping a bong.
From there, she hit a hand pipe while riding shotgun in a friend’s car. Eventually, she and her friend got too stoned to drive. So they called Joan’s daughter and asked her to come pick them up.
When her daughter arrived, she got pretty much what you’d expect from trying to deal with two totally baked people. On the car ride home, the two smokers nagged Joan’s daughter, chanting that they wanted to stop at a food truck for some grub. But the antics kept going.
By the time they finally got back home, Joan and her friend headed straight for the hot tub — with all of their clothes on. From the looks of things, we can only conclude one of two things: Joan isn’t a regular smoker or that was some really good sh*t.

When it comes to making a list of famous people who love weed, you know James Franco and Seth Rogen would show up somewhere.
During the 2008 MTV Movie Awards this pair of celebrity weed smokers were given the task of presenting the award for the best summer movie. While at the mic they pulled out a big bag of weed and a fat joint. Then, they proceeded to smoke on live television. They joked that they weren’t really potheads and to prove it they smoked a bunch of “fake weed” on national television. Judging by the fact that the cameras completely zoomed out to not show what they were doing, it was real AF.
Either way, these guys are some of the most well-known cannabis fans in Hollywood. Seth Rogen is especially outspoken about his love of all things related to weed.
