Abbas Kiarostami is an Iranian film director, screenwriter, photographer and film producer. An active filmmaker since 1970, Kiarostami has been involved in over forty films, including shorts and documentaries. Kiarostami attained critical acclaim for directing the Koker Trilogy, Close-Up, Taste of Cherry, and The Wind Will Carry Us. In his recent films, Certified Copy and Like Someone in Love, he filmed for the first time outside Iran, in Italy and Japan, respectively. Kāveh Golestān Taghavi Shirazi, was an Iranian photojournalist and artist. Golestan was educated at Millfield School in Somerset, England. In 1988, working as a freelance photographer, he took the first pictures of the aftermath of the Halabja poison gas attack during the Iran-Iraq War. On April 2, 2003, he was killed at the age of 53, as a result of stepping on a land mine while working for the BBC in Kifri, Iraq. He is buried in a cemetery in the east of Tehran. ...more
