Buwei Yang Chao
Buwei Yang Chao was an American Chinese physician, writer of recipes, and wife of the eminent linguist Yuen Ren Chao. She was born in Nanjing into the Yang family but was looked after by her aunt and uncle. She was sent to Japan to attend the Tokyo Women's Medical College. After graduating as a medical doctor, she returned to China where she met her future husband. They married on June 1, 1921. Tan Sri Dr. Chua Soi Lek; born 2 January 1947, also known as Chua Kin Seng, is a Chinese Malaysian politician from the state of Johor. He is married to Datin Seri Wong Sek Hin. They have three children. He is the 9th President of the Malaysian Chinese Association. He was trained in psychology and practised psychiatry before entering politics through his involvement with the Malaysian Chinese Association. He held the post of Minister of Health from 2004 until 2008. Chua set up his medical practice in 1977 after serving as a medical officer at the Batu Pahat Hospital. Dr. Kuan Huang, the first Chinese person to study medicine abroad, a Cantonese who went to Edinburgh University in Scotland, and then disseminated what he had learned on returning to his native Canton. This brought about a new generation of doctors who saw a wealth of knowledge in Western medicine. He studied at the University of Edinburgh between 1850 and 1855, and was an intern until 1857.
