Carlos Enrique Díaz de León


Carlos Enrique Díaz de León was the provisional President of Guatemala from 27 June 1954 to 28 June 1954. He was replaced by a military junta led by Elfegio Monzón. Carlos Enrique Díaz was chief of the armed forces. Diaz was also a friend and successor of Guatemalan president Jacobo Árbenz. At the direction of the CIA and US Ambassador John Peurifoy, Díaz convinced Árbenz to resign the presidency. Military Government Board Colonel Carlos Enrique Diaz Colonel H. Edmond Mulet is a Guatemalan diplomat. He is currently the Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations at the United Nations. He was appointed to this position by the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on 2 June 2011. Previously, he was the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and head of mission of MINUSTAH, having assumed the functions of acting head of mission in the immediate aftermath of the 2010 Haiti earthquake, in which the previous head of mission, Hédi Annabi of Tunisia, perished. Colonel Jacobo Árbenz Guzmán was a Guatemalan military officer and progressive politician who served as Defense Minister of Guatemala from 1944 to 1951, and as President of Guatemala from 1951 to 1954. He was a major figure in the Guatemalan Revolution. Árbenz was born in 1913 to a middle-class family, and graduated with high honors from a military academy in 1935. He served in the army until 1944, steadily rising through the ranks. During this period, he witnessed the United States backed dictator Jorge Ubico use the military to brutally suppress agrarian laborers.
