Famous Survivors of Hodgkin's Lymphoma

A rare but serious form of cancer, Hodgkin's Lymphoma is certainly a scary diagnosis. However, these famous survivors of Hodgkin's Lymphoma give hope to those battling the disease as they underwent successful treatments. Hodgkin's Lymphoma, sometimes called Hodgkin's Disease, attacks the body's lymphatic system, a vital part of the immune system. Treatment options depend on the severity and stage of the disease, and many of the below celebrities who had Hodgkin's Lymphoma have opened up on how they dealt with their cancer. 

Chemotherapy is a viable treatment option that has worked for stars like Michael C. Hall. Other survivors, however, had more intense treatments such as stem cell transplants and even opted for experimental or alternative treatments. Sadly, not all famous people who had Hodgkin's Lymphoma ended up beating the disease.   • Michael C. Hall

    In 2010, Michael C. Hall announced that he had been treated for Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He was diagnosed while shooting the fourth season of Dexter and began chemotherapy immediately after he finished filming. Fortunately, the treatment was successful and Hall later went into remission.

  • Musician Joey Ramone was diagnosed with lymphoma in 1995. He fought the disease for over six years before passing away in 2001 at the age of 49.

  • English singer and songwriter Martin Fry battled Hodgkin's Lymphoma in the 1980s. In a 2013 interview, he opened up about fighting the disease:

    I was a street fighter. They were surprised how tenacious I was. One of the doctors said to me that a lot of people pretend it isn’t there, refuse to go to appointments and so on. I was angry and I didn’t want to back down. It was only years later I realized how lucky I was.

  • Dick Gregory

    Comedian and activist Dick Gregory was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2000. He later announced that his cancer had gone into remission. He died in 2017 from heart failure at the age of 84.

  • DJ Qualls

    Actor DJ Qualls was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma when he as 14 years old. He received treatment for two years before his cancer went into remission.

    Anthony Rizzo

    Anthony Rizzo was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2007. He underwent chemotherapy and, by 2008, he was in remission. He said he first noticed he was sick after taking a trip, saying, "I went on a road trip, I get back, and I had gained like 15 pounds because my legs had swelled up."
