Atkins Jefferson McLemore (March 13, 1857 – March 4, 1929) was an American newspaper publisher, State Representative and United States Representative from Texas.

A. Shane Massey

A. Shane Massey (born June 28, 1975) is a Republican member of the South Carolina Senate, representing the 25th District since 2007. Massey became the Republican Majority Leader for the Senate on April 6, 2016.
On March 20, 2009, Massey announced that he would be a Republican candidate for the US House of Representatives South Carolina's 3rd congressional district, but quickly pulled out, citing a desire to keep his family in South Carolina.
Massey was named a 2014 Aspen Institute Rodel Fellow.

Abe Fortas

Abraham "Abe" Fortas (June 19, 1910 – April 5, 1982) was a U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice from 1965 to 1969.
A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Fortas became a law professor at Yale University, and then an advisor for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Fortas worked at the Department of the Interior under President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and during that time President Harry S. Truman appointed him to delegations that helped set up the United Nations in 1945.
In 1948 Fortas represented Lyndon Johnson in the hotly contested Democratic Senatorial Second Primary electoral dispute, and he formed close ties with the president-to-be. Fortas also represented Clarence Earl Gideon before the U.S. Supreme Court, in a landmark case involving the right to counsel.
Nominated by Johnson to the Supreme Court in 1965, Fortas was confirmed by the Senate, and maintained a close working relationship with the president.  In 1968, Johnson tried to elevate Fortas to the position of Chief Justice, but that nomination faced a filibuster at least in part due to ethics problems that later caused Fortas to resign from the Court. Fortas returned to private practice, sometimes appearing before the justices with whom he had served.

He was the father of Al Gore, the 45th Vice President of the United States (1993–2001).

Albert H. Roberts

Albert Houston Roberts (July 4, 1868 – June 25, 1946) was an American politician, educator, and jurist.  He served as Governor of Tennessee from 1919 to 1921, having previously served as a state court judge and as principal of the Alpine Institute.  He is best remembered for calling the special session of the Tennessee General Assembly that ratified the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote, in August 1920.  Roberts' support for the amendment and his unpopular tax reform initiatives divided the state Democratic Party and doomed his reelection chances.

Alexander Barrow

Alexander Barrow I (March 27, 1801 – December 29, 1846) was a lawyer and United States Senator from Louisiana. He was a member of the Whig Party. He was the half-brother of Washington Barrow, sharing the same father.
Born near Nashville, Tennessee, to Willie Barrow and his first wife Jane Green, Barrow attended the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, from 1816 to 1818. Then he studied law and was admitted to the bar, in 1822, commencing practice in Nashville.
Soon afterward he relocated to Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, where he continued to practice law. Later he abandoned his legal career to become a planter.
Eventually, Alexander Barrow became involved in politics and was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives, where he served for several years. In 1840 Barrow was elected a Whig to the United States Senate, serving from 1841 until his death. There he was Chairman of the Committee on Public Buildings and Grounds during the 27th Congress and of the Committee on the Militia during the 27th and 28th Congresses.
Senator Barrow died in Baltimore, Maryland, on December 29, 1846. His remains were interred in the family cemetery on Afton Villa plantation, near Bayou Sara, Louisiana.
Alexander and Mary Ann Barrow had three children, Alexander II, Willie Micajah, and Jane.

Alfred A. Taylor

Alfred Alexander Taylor (August 6, 1848 – November 25, 1931), known as Alf Taylor, was an American politician and lecturer from eastern Tennessee. He served as Governor of Tennessee from 1921 to 1923, one of three Republicans to hold the position from the end of Reconstruction to the latter half of the 20th century. He also served three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, from 1889 to 1895.In 1886, Taylor ran for governor against his younger brother, Democrat Robert Love Taylor (1850–1912), in a memorable campaign known as the "War of the Roses."  Canvassing the state together, the brothers often engaged in light-hearted banter and played fiddles, in contrast to previous gubernatorial campaigns, which involved fierce debates. Taylor ran for governor again in 1910, but lost his party's nomination to Ben W. Hooper. He was victorious in 1920 due in large part to divisions within the Democratic Party over taxes and women's suffrage.

Ambrose Hundley Sevier (November 4, 1801 – December 31, 1848) was an attorney, politician and planter from Arkansas. A member of the political Family that dominated the state and national delegations in the antebellum years, he was elected by the legislature as a Democratic US Senator.

Andrew Jackson Donelson

Andrew Jackson Donelson (August 25, 1799 – June 26, 1871) was an American diplomat. He served in various positions as a Democrat and was the Know Nothing nominee for Vice President of the United States in 1856.
After the death of his father, Donelson was adopted by his aunt, Rachel Jackson, and her husband, Andrew Jackson. Donelson attended the United States Military Academy and served under his uncle in Florida. He resigned his commission and studied law, beginning his own practice in Nashville. He assisted Jackson's presidential campaigns and served as his private secretary after Jackson won the 1828 presidential election. He returned to Tennessee after the end of Jackson's presidency in 1837 and remained active in local politics.
After helping James K. Polk triumph at the 1844 Democratic National Convention, Donelson was appointed by President John Tyler to represent the United States in the Republic of Texas, where Donelson played an important role in the annexation of Texas. In 1846, President Polk appointed Donelson appointed as Minister to Prussia. He left that position in 1849 and became the editor of a Democratic newspaper, but alienated various factions in the party. In 1856, the Know Nothings chose him as their vice presidential nominee, and he campaigned on a ticket with former Whig President Millard Fillmore. The ticket finished in third place in both the electoral and popular vote behind the Democratic and Republican tickets. Donelson also participated in the 1860 Constitutional Union Convention.

Andy Berke

Andrew Lawrence Berke (born March 31, 1968) is an American attorney and Tennessee politician. He is the Mayor of Chattanooga. He is a member of the Democratic Party and represented Hamilton and Marion counties in the 10th District as state senator from 2007 to 2012. On March 5, 2013, he became Chattanooga's Mayor Elect, and was inaugurated on April 15, 2013.



Anthony A.C. Rogers

Anthony Astley Cooper Rogers (February 14, 1821 – July 27, 1899) was an American politician. He served in the House of Representative from Arkansas.
Born in Clarksville, Tennessee, Rogers received a limited schooling.  He engaged in mercantile pursuits.
He moved to Arkansas in 1854.  An opponent of Secession, he was a candidate of supporters of the Union as a delegate to the State convention in 1861.  He was arrested for his loyalty, imprisoned, and forced to give bond to answer the charge of "treason against the Confederate Government."
Rogers was elected to the 38th United States Congress, but was not allowed to take his seat, his State not having been readmitted.  In 1864, he moved to Chicago, Illinois, and engaged in the real estate business.  He returned to Arkansas in 1868.
Rogers was elected as a Democrat to the 41st Congress, March 4, 1869, to March 3, 1871.  He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1870 to the 42nd Congress.  He was postmaster at Pine Bluff, Arkansas, from January 7, 1881, to July 24, 1885, and again engaged in mercantile pursuits.
In 1888, he moved to Los Angeles, where he died the following year at the age of 78. He is interred in Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery.

Arthur B. Culvahouse, Jr.

Arthur Boggess Culvahouse Jr. (born July 4, 1948) is an American attorney and diplomat who is currently serving as United States Ambassador to Australia.
He is the former Chair of O'Melveny & Myers, an international law firm of more than 1,000 lawyers with offices around the world. Culvahouse also served as counsel to Ronald Reagan in the last two years of his presidency, and was entrusted by John McCain and Donald Trump to vet their vice presidential candidates.
On November 6, 2018, Culvahouse was announced to be the new appointment as the United States' Ambassador to Australia, a posting confirmed by the Senate on January 2, 2019. He presented his credentials to the Governor-General of Australia, Sir Peter Cosgrove, on March 13, 2019.

Augustus Hill Garland

Augustus Hill Garland (June 11, 1832  –  January 26, 1899) was an American lawyer and Democratic politician from Arkansas, who initially opposed Arkansas' secession from the United States, but later served in both houses of the Congress of the Confederate States and the United States Senate, as well as became the 11th Governor of Arkansas (1874-1877) and the 38th Attorney General of the United States (1885-1889).
