Some famous writer or novelist suicides have been debated as being cover-ups for foul play.

Who are some famous authors who committed suicide? On February 20, 2005, Hunter S. Thompson committed suicide by gunshot in his Colorado home at the age of 67. He was suffering from chronic pain due to a back injury and hip replacement surgery. Ernest Hemingway shot himself as well; he committed suicide in 1961, at the age of 61. He reportedly received shock therapy shortly before he took his own life. Other famous writers who killed themselves include Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Plath, and Abbie Hoffman.
