Ever since cell phones started coming with a camera, the most popular thing to do has been to take a selfie, a picture of yourself, and post in on Instagram, Twitter, and/or Facebook. But lately, people have been taking selfies to extreme levels in order to get more likes and viral acclaim for their photo. Many of these extreme selfies have led to the people taking the photographs to be left in critical condition, or worse, to perish from the act. The selfie perishments on this list are horrible, but they should be shared so no one else has to suffer a selfie injury for the sake getting a great photo. The amount of young people who have passed while taking a selfie is staggering. In fact, a 2018 study reported over 250 people worldwide passed between 2011 and 2017 trying to get the shot. After reading through these stories of people who were injured while taking a selfie, you’ll start to wonder how someone could be so careless.   • Man Perishes Trying To Take Selfie With Bear

    In May 2018, Odisha, India, Prabhu Bhatara tried to take a selfie with an injured bear while stopping at a bathroom on the way home from a wedding reception. Bhatara's friends reportedly tried to deter him from taking the selfie, but he ignored the warnings and got up close to the animal for a picture.

    The bear quickly attacked and — despite attempts to intervene — Bhatara perished on the spot. The bear was later treated for its injuries. 

  • Man Shoots Himself In The Face

    In 2016, a man from Concrete, Washington, fatally shot himself in the face while trying to take a selfie. The 43-year-old (whose name was not released by the police) apparently thought the gun was unloaded. He and his girlfriend had taken several selfies with the weapon that day, and each time, the man unloaded the gun before the pictures, then reloaded it after.

    Deleon Smith, a 19-year-old father of two from Houston, Texas, accidentally shot himself in the face while posing for a selfie with a gun. His family said that he was due to begin classes at a local community college within the month.

    A man, referred to as Mr. Chen, reportedly fell off a waterfall in Zhejiang, eastern China. He was found with a phone and a selfie stick at the bottom of a ravine.
