The majority of friendships end up remaining just that: friends. But, often in romantic comedies, the friends to lovers trope tends to be the driving force of the narrative. Redditor u/AdAppropriate6975 asked: “What did your friend do that accidentally turned you on?” and the responses were surprisingly wholesome.

    When He Reassured Them Honestly

    From Redditor u/AmarettoOrWhat:

I was unsure about something, and he started reassuring me by telling me how smart and hardworking I am. It wasn’t really what he said, but how he said it. He got this very earnest, stern look on his face that I hadn’t seen before, held eye contact, stopped what he was doing, and told me why he was certain I’d be okay.

    From Redditor u/Yomitht:

I've always appreciated others' confidence in me, especially when I'm insecure about something. I've broken down in tears from people saying that they know I'll do well. As someone who is more attracted to personal things like this over physical things, I totally get it.

When He Proclaimed That They Would Get Food

    From Redditor u/Signal-Block-1797:

“Get your butt in the car, we’re going to get Chinese food." He knew I wasn’t in a great state of mind, and we had been friends for a handful of years. He drove to find me when I wouldn’t tell him where I was. After food, he drove me to the store to get Nerf guns and we battled.  We had both been out of relationships for some time, and he knew I needed someone to talk to. Just kinda fell in love as it happened. I’ll always be so grateful. Wound up marrying him.

    From Redditor u/NoisyCricket808:

If someone bought me Nerf guns, I'd marry them too.

    From Redditor u/Illustrious_Drama:

I'm convinced a surprise Nerf battle was how my wife fell for me.

When He Gave Her His Jacket And Hugged Her

    From Redditor u/Gizmottto:

I was pretty good, if not best friends with someone I never thought I would be attracted to. We were at the bar one night, and I was cold. He took his favorite jacket and put it over my shoulders and hugged me. I got a feeling for him I’ll never forget after that.

    From Redditor u/hawkeneye1998bs:

I did this before with my best friend. I gave her my jacket and hugged her, and the look she gave me after that made me melt and almost walk into a tree.

    From Redditor u/Admirable_Button_1:

If, "the look she gave me after that made me melt and almost walk into a tree," doesn't perfectly explain surprise attraction, I don't know what does.

When They Had To Say Goodbye

    From Redditor u/Veeksvoodoo:

She dropped me off at the airport. I said, “thank you, goodbye,” and gave her a kiss on the cheek before turning to get out of the car. As I undid my seatbelt, and turned to leave, she grabbed my wrist and then said, “Is that it?" I turned back, locked eyes, and suddenly my heart started to ache. Suddenly, I didn’t want to leave. We embraced, but it was the first time we did so that wasn’t as just as friends. I remember holding her in the car, not wanting to let go, and suddenly having this rush of feelings that I’d never let myself feel before. I remember when I’d gotten to my destination (I was going to visit my aunt for a few weeks) and my aunt mentioned I seemed heart broken. I knew at that moment I was in love with my best friend. We’ve been together ever since I got back home. We just celebrated our 18th anniversary on March 17th.

    From Redditor u/TheGogglesDo-Nothing:

I just read this story to my wife after which she said “aww.” Me: “how come you never drop ME off at the airport?” Her: “I drop you off at the airport all the f*ing time.” True love my friend.

    When She Suddenly Stopped Him

    From Redditor u/gabjam:

Went to a friend's house to play DnD. She made us all nachos and chicken. At the end, I went to wash up so as not to leave her with all our mess. I turned around, and she put her hand on my chest, stared me straight in the eyes, and told me I didn't need to help. Nothing overtly sexy, but she held my gaze and had her hand on my chest just slightly longer than would be expected. In 9 years, I'd apparently been completely oblivious to all prior attempts at flirting. I'm so clueless at knowing when people are hitting on me, it was mentioned in 3 separate speeches at my own wedding. Anyway, we're married now.

    From Redditor u/GrldCh3z:

You cleaning would be her answer in this thread.

When She Tilted Her Head While Listening To Him

    From Redditor u/bayala43:

She did that thing where people tilt their head. She was just listening to me talk about MRSA (we're nursing students), and she was kind of smiling, listening to me go into depth about the illness for a test review. She ever so slightly tilted her head and kept her very pretty eyes directly on mine. That mixed with the slight smile got my stomach in knots and I just started stuttering like a fool.

    From Redditor u/daveclair:

Yeah no, I'm a med student and I promise you, no one does the cute little head tilt and smile just because they're listening to me talk about MRSA.

    From a Redditor:

    Ask! Her! Out!
