Who makes Mazda and all its types of cars? The Mazda Motor Corporation was founded in 1920 in Japan. For a period between 1979 to 2010, Ford owned a stake in the company, but has since sold it off. The Mazda car models below come both from "The Ford Period," old Mazdas from the early years, Mazda sports car models, and perhaps a Mazda family car that's perfect for taking your kids to school. The Mazda Tribute was a compact SUV made by Japanese automaker Mazda from 2001 to 2011. It was jointly developed with Ford Motor Company and based on the front-wheel drive Mazda 626 platform, which was in turn the basis for the similar Ford Escape on the CD2 platform. The Tribute was priced below the Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner in Ford's CD2 SUV lineup. The Tribute and Escape debuted in 2001, offering front or all wheel drive and a choice of a transversely mounted 2.0 L Ford Zetec 4-cylinder engine or 3.0 L Ford Duratec V6. The Mazda B-Series is a pickup truck, first manufactured in 1961 by Mazda Motor Corporation. Since the launch of the B-Series, Mazda has used the engine displacement to determine each model's name; the B1500 had a 1.5 L engine and the B2600 had a 2.6 L engine. In Japan, Mazda used the name "Proceed" for its compact pickup trucks, and "Mazda Titan" for another line of larger trucks. Other names used for this line include Mazda Bravo, Mazda Bounty, Mazda Magnum / Thunder / Fighter, and Mazda Drifter. The Mazda RX-7 is a sports car produced by the Japanese automaker Mazda from 1978 to 2002. The original RX-7 featured a 1,146 cc twin-rotor Wankel rotary engine and a front-midship, rear-wheel drive layout. The RX-7 replaced the RX-3. The original RX-7 was a sports car with pop-up headlamps. The compact and lightweight Wankel rotary engine is situated slightly behind the front axle, a configuration marketed by Mazda as "front mid-engine". It was offered as a two-seat coupé, with optional "occasional" rear seats in Japan, Australia, the United States, and other parts of the world.
