Three Of The Cast Members' Husbands Played Characters In The Series
Interestingly, the characters that the leads snubbed as romantic interests within the series were played by men who the actors are married to in real life. Sandy Rivers, the inappropriate and vulgar former colleague of Robin, was portrayed by Alyson Hannigan's husband Alexis Denisof. Scooter, Lily's obsessed ex-boyfriend, was played by Neil Patrick Harris's husband David Burtka. Finally, Gary Blauman, Barney's colleague, was played by Taran Killam, who is the husband of Cobie Smulders.
In Season 1, episode 21 "Milk," Barney gives Ted a birthday present by completing the greatest pickup move on a girl. During this performance, two men arrive pretending to be paramedics, who were played by the creators of the series Craig Thomas and Carter Bays.
Barney pulled off several magic tricks and illusions within the series. The mastery of this wasn't due to the show's camera effects but because Neil Patrick Harris is actually a trained magician who knows how to do the feats Barney displayed.

Neil Patrick Harris Graduated From School With High Honors
Barney was never a great prospect as a child and worked for GNB as a guy who simply signed on legal documents. Meanwhile, Neil Patrick Harris excelled as a student, having attended La Cueva High School and graduating with high honors in 1991. All this despite having starred in Dougie Houser, M.D. simultaneously.

Jason Segel Did Win A Slam Dunk Contest Like Marshall
Marshall liked to brag about completing a slam dunk one time in high school. This was true for the actor as well, who used to excel at basketball at his high school and did win a slam dunk contest once.
Robin was proud of her status as a Canadian, which came up many times over the series. Like her character, Cobie Smulders was also born in Canada and went to the United States for work prospects. Again similar to her character, Smulders ended up becoming an American citizen.
