'90s kids had a ton of options if they were in a scary mood and felt the urge to freak themselves out, from Goosebumps to Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. But perhaps none were as terrifying as Are You Afraid of the Dark?, a Nickelodeon show that featured several guest stars and cameos of future stars when they were young. You were probably too young and too scared to notice, but many now-familiar faces (so baby-faced at the time) appeared on the program. Let's take a walk down memory lane and look at some of the most notable Are You Afraid of the Dark guest stars before they were famous.
On the second episode of the show’s fifth season, titled "The Tale Of Station 109.1", a kid who is obsessed with death and dresses in all black is mistaken for a lost soul. This kid discovers a radio station that brings the listener to the afterlife, and he has a normal, not-as-into-death brother, who is played by Ryan Gosling. Aside from being on the Mickey Mouse Club, this was Goslings only other TV credit at the time. The following year he was on an episode of Goosebumps.
On the sixth season’s third episode, "The Tale of Bigfoot Ridge," Hayden Christensen plays Kirk, a kid searching for his missing friend. Kirk and his brother had been skiing, but after their friend disappears, they must deal with an ancient ghost that feeds off of its victims. Before this, Christensen appeared in an episode of Goosebumps, so Christensen wasn’t new to playing a role in a scary series.

Jewel Staite (Firefly) appeared in seasons three and four of the series, in "The Tale of Watcher’s Woods" and "The Tale of the Unfinished Painting." In the latter, Staite plays an artist who is working under a witch that traps people in paintings. In her first appearance on the show, her character didn’t encounter a witch, but enters the woods and encounters some creepy old hags. see more on Jewel Staite
On the fifth season’s thirteenth episode, "The Tale of the Night Shift," Chriqui plays Amanda, who works the graveyard shift at a hospital. The story takes a scary turn as a vampire begins feeding on the patients’ blood, temporarily placing them in a zombie-like state, until they eventually become vampires as well. Amanda ends up burning the head vampire in an incinerator, which is actually pretty gnarl for a kid's show.
