The Best G-Funk Rappers
At the onset of gangster rap and west coast rap, there was a subgenre that emerged that captured the laidback vibes of the hip hop of that time. G-Funk was much smoother and slower than generic west coast rap, and G Funk rappers were some of the most popular 90s musicians. In fact, G-Funk rappers ruled the album charts during this time as well. That time, also known as the G-Funk era, was heavily influenced by the earlier Bay Area-based sound, which was known to many as Mobb music. Many people associate G-Funk rappers with Los Angeles, but the Bay played a big part in shaping the sound.
So, who is the best G-Funk rapper? The OG of G-Funk is none other than Dr. Dre. Though now he's known as a mogul whose reach goes well beyond the music spectrum, Dre's beats that originated with N.W.A. helped usher in the G-Funk era and allowed for G-Funk rappers, G-Funk artists and G-Funk groups to rise to power. Some of Dr. Dre's most prominent proteges are some of rap music's biggest names. Snoop Dogg, Warren G, Nate Dogg are some of the biggest G-Funk rappers. Let's not forget about the likes of Ice Cube and even Coolio as part of the top G-Funk artists.
That said, it's up to you to determine who should be called the best G-Funk rapper. If you see someone who should be on this list and isn't, feel free to add them. This list answers the questions "who are the best g-funk bands of all time?" and "who is the greatest g-funk musician ever?" If you know enough about the genre, please vote based on the quality of the band's music instead of just voting for the most popular g-funk bands that you might've heard of {#nodes}- Warren Griffin III (born November 10, 1970), known by his stage name Warren G, is an American rapper, songwriter, record producer and DJ, known as one of the pioneers of West Coast hip hop.
