HBO's Game of Thrones was one of the biggest shows on television, but it wouldn't be much of anything were it not for the incredible characters fighting against or alongside one another to sit upon the Iron Throne. Looking back over the eight seasons and 70+ episodes, it's difficult to recall what some of the first words spoken by GoT characters actually were.
A character's opening line can help to establish who they are in just a short period of time, and while many of the first words spoken by the core cast aren't all that telling, some of them might surprise you. This list comprises the core characters from the show with their opening lines. When their first uttering was a simple greeting or name, it has been combined with the following sentence, but otherwise, these are the first lines spoken by the main characters on Game of Thrones.
"If that were a real sword, you'd be dead. Lord Snow here grew up in a castle spitting down on the likes of you. Pyp, do you think Ned Stark's b*stard bleeds like the rest of us?"
"Move!" (As she pushes Bran out of the way)
"As you command." (Replying to Ned Stark's orders)
"Jon said he was a deserter. He was in the Night's Watch and he ran away." (Speaking to his father, Ned)
"Your Grace, I ask the honor of a place in your Kingsguard." (Speaking to Renly)
"You can have my room." (Speaking to Tyrion)
"Do you have to?" (Speaking to Ned)
"And you never worry about anything. When we were seven, you jumped off the cliffs as Casterly Rock. One hundred foot drop into the water. And you were never afraid." (Speaking to Jaime)
"I hope the old man is better with a sword than he is with a lie. You have 8,000 Unsullied." (Speaking to Daenerys)
"We've been his guests for a year. And he's never asked for anything." (Speaking to Viserys about Illyrio)
"Not now." (Speaking in response to Melisandre, but to Stannis)
"And which one of you was a marksman at 10? Keep practicing, Bran. Go on."
"Beautiful. But pale." (Replying to Oberyn)
"It's not for sale." (Replying to Ned Stark's interest in his helmet)
"This is our place. Our husband keeps us safe. Better to live free than die a slave." (Speaking to Lord Mormont while Craster holds her tightly)
"High Sparrow? Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it? Like Lord Duckling, or King Turtle. (Laughs). So, it's meant to. We're often stuck with the names our enemies give to us. (Prepares soup for the next person in line) The notion that we are all equal in the eyes of Seven doesn't sit well with some, so they belittle me." (Speaking to Cersei)
"Boy. Lovely boy. A man has a thirst. The man does not drink for a day and a night. A boy could make a friend." (Speaking to Arya whom he mistook to be a boy)
"This one has the honor." (Speaking to Daenerys)
"As your brother, I feel it’s my duty to warn you: You worry too much. It’s starting to show." (Speaking to Cersei)
"Who am I fighting?" (Speaking to Cersei)
"Better-looking b*tches than you're used to, Uncle. My mother's been looking for you. We ride for King's Landing today." (Speaking to Tyrion)
"I don't need him to be charming. I need him to turn this bunch of thieves and runaways into men of the Night's Watch." (Speaking to Tyrion)
"Go on. Father's watching. And your mother." (speaking to Bran)
"Now, now, my love. My brother fought valiantly for you." (Speaking to Renly)
