The final season of Game of Thrones promised us two major battles, one against the White Walkers in the north and one against Cersei in the south. The series' penultimate episode brought plenty of deaths that fans complained were absent during the supernatural Battle of Winterfell. Dany and her forces squared off against Cersei and hers with the Iron Throne on the line and it brought a lot to digest. One of the show's primary protagonists finally broke bad, a long time fan theory finally proved true, and a handful of the show's Day 1 stars kicked the bucket.

We recapped the biggest moments from the episode. Be sure to vote up your favorite!

After sending Arya home – telling her that if she goes with him, she'll either die or live her life controlled by revenge – The Hound finally squares off with his brother. Cersei wants The Mountain to stay by her and protect her, but perhaps for the first time since his reanimation, he makes a choice for himself. He defies and effortlessly kills Qyburn, and The Hound lets the queen pass as Cleganebowl kicks off. The Hound knocks off the Mountain's helmet, and we finally get to see what horrific face has been hiding underneath.

The Hound drives his blade through his brother, but it's hard to kill something that's already been dead and brought back to life. The Mountain knocks his younger brother away and removes his armor as he moves in for the kill. After a barrage of fists, he starts choking The Hound while getting constantly stabbed. The Mountain nearly kills his brother in the same way he killed The Viper, gouging out his eyes and crushing his skull, but Sandor drives his knife into the center of The Mountain's face. Before he can recover, Sandor dives into him, pushing The Mountain through a wall and over a ledge. The brothers both freefall into the dragon's fire below.

With the slaughter of the people of King's Landing underway, Jon notices one of Dany's men pulling a defenseless woman into an alley. Jon stops him and holds the man at swordpoint. When the soldier makes a move on him, Jon stabs him and tells the woman to hide. By this point, it's clear he's made his choice about the Dragon Queen.

The Battle for King's Landing goes decidedly better than the Battle for Winterfell. After Dany decimates the Iron Fleet and Golden Company, and the ground troops flood the city, Jon, Grey Worm, and the rest of Dany's forces eventually come face to face with the bulk of the Lannister forces. Instead of fighting, the men of King's Landing, knowing they are already defeated, throw down their swords. Eventually, the bells of surrender ring out across the city.

Arya and The Hound arrive at a camp outside the capitol city, and are stopped by guards.  She explains who she is and that she wants to kill Cersei. Clearly the word of her killing the Night King has spread, because the guard seems a little star struck. The Hound points out that if she can get in and kill Cersei, there may not even be a battle.
