Here's a video of former US president George W. Bush giving a speech about Islam during the traumatic aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Even back then, during the declaration of war on terror, the president reminded Americans not to conflate all Muslims with terrorists. "The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam," he rejoined. "That’s not what Islam is all about."
He also reminds America that their country is made up of millions of Muslims, who strive for peace and contribute enormously to society. Though still controversial as a wartime leader, this message of reassurance and respect from W. stands in stark contrast to the 2017 presidential attitude toward "others" and those of diverse faiths and backgrounds.
Watch George W.'s speech from 2001 and be encouraged to remember and pay forward the good moments and reminders of hope for humanity.
