Beloved '80s classic Ghostbusters has spent the better part of four decades redefining the horror-comedy genre while developing an almost cult-like following among new and old fans along the way. The original two movies introduced audiences to the comedy antics of Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler, Winston Zeddemore, the ever-helpful Janine, and of course, Slimer - all of whom have fashioned a place in pop-culture history.
But what if there were more to see? More Venkman, more Egon, even more Stay Puft Marshmallow Man...
Thanks to recent Blu-ray releases of both Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, deleted scenes have made it out into the world, delighting fans with what could have been. Here are a few deleted scenes from the first two movies that offer a new glimpse into the firehouse. Vote up the scenes that you wish were included in the final cut.
"Just because I'm a classical musician, it doesn't mean I haven't been around..." - Dana Barrett
After Dana is unable to prove the existence of supernatural forces in her apartment to the original Ghostbusters, Peter Venkman attempts to reassure her by checking on her. She calls him out on his "concern," yelling at him in frustration. He attempts to reassure her, says he believes her, and asks to spend the night, to which Dana has one response: "Get out."
"I lived in New York my whole life and never once visited the Statue of Liberty, and now I finally get here, and we're taking her for a walk!" - Winston Zeddemore
After the boys spray down the insides of the Statue of Liberty in the second movie and play "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher" by Jackie Wilson, the landmark starts to walk, which leaves the boys with a dilemma: how to drive the statue.
The scene explains how the Ghostbusters were able to control Lady Liberty.
At the end of the first movie, just as film antagonist Walter Peck is covered in marshmallow goo, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man's giant sailor hat falls from the sky to the street, inciting the cheers of grateful New Yorkers.
In this deleted scene from the first film, Ray and Winston investigate paranormal activity at Fort Detmerring in the Single Officers' Quarters, a historical site that was restored as a tourist attraction. While there, Ray tries on a uniform and enjoys the four-poster bed, immediately falling asleep. While he snores, a beautiful specter floats above him, waking him from his slumber to have relations with the Ghostbuster.
Though the scene was cut, parts of it were used in the music montage, making little sense to the audience without the full backstory.
"If you are right, and we can actually catch a ghost and hold it... I might win the Nobel Prize." - Peter Venkman
After the trio meets the ghostly librarian in the first movie, they talk about the scientific ability to trap and capture ghosts. As they chat, they don't notice that a custodian is scraping their names off the door to their offices.
"What do you need from me?" - Mayor Lenny
"Just let us kick some ghost, will ya?" - Dr. Peter Venkman
In this chaotic scene from the first movie, the mayor asks how he can assist the Ghostbusters. When the scene cuts to show the action in the streets below, we see the military and police gearing up to help the ghost-catching crew.
While walking together, the mayor asks Venkman and Ray Stantz why this is happening now. As they talk, Janine Melnitz gives Egon Spengler her lucky coin from the 1964 World's Fair. He tries to resist the offering because they might not come back, but she states, "Take it anyways. I got another one at home."
The boys then get a full police escort to the site of ghostly activity.
