The Greatest Baltimore Orioles of All Time
This is a list of the greatest Balitmore Orioles ever. The Baltimore Orioles are one of the most storied franchises in the history of Major League Baseball. Located in Baltimore since 1954, the Orioles traditionally have had one of the best infields in baseball, which has produced some of the greatest baseball players of all time. Many of the best Orioles ever are infielders. The years 1966 through 1983 are considered the franchise's glory years. Baltimore fared well during the mid '90s and on the strength of its young core, brighter days are ahead for the club.
One of the most famous Orioles in history is Cal Ripken Jr. The Hall of Fame shortstop's name is synonymous with one of the greatest streaks in sports history. For 2,632 consecutive games (more specifically from 1982-1998), Ripken's name was on the Orioles lineup card. The 19-time All Star is easily one of the most popular players not only in Baltimore Orioles history, but the entire major leagues.
Other players who are the the best Orioles ever include slugging outfielder Frank Robinson and slick fielding third baseman Brooks Robinson. Along with Ripken, the Robinsons (of no relation) are also hall of famers.
The Orioles have a rich history of pitching as well. Jim Palmer is probably the most famous pitcher to wear the orange, black and white. Winning 268 games in 19 seasons, Palmer was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1990, his second year eligibility. Palmer fronted a strong pitching staff that led the Orioles to three World Series titles during his tenure with the club.
