The Greatest Skate Shoes of All Time

Updated July 13, 2020 1.7k votes 266 voters 7.1k views35 items

Skateboarding shoes have come a long way since the trend picked up back in the 70s. They started slim with shoes like the Vans Authentic sported by the Z-Boys, got huge and puffy through the 80s and 90s, and slowly worked their way back to more low-profile styles throughout the 2000s. Throughout the 2010s, skateboarding shoes are certainly at their best—but we can't forget our roots. Considering the classic kicks of the 90s, when "skate" shoes really took off, to the new and improved shoes of the 21st century, the best skate shoes of all time span a range of styles and sizes, not to mention the varying construction of each shoe (i.e. cup sole and vulcanized). Whether you judge by looks, board feel, or durability, what do you think are the best skate shoes to date?

While the Osiris D3 is one of the best selling skateboard shoes ever, it really wasn't a great shoe when it came to skating. It was big, bulky, and you couldn't feel whether your board was truly under your feet or not. Fortunately, these ugly shoes were soon set aside for what would become some of the greatest shoes ever. We're talking the eS Koston's, Guy Mariano's Axion shoe, and Emerica's Reynolds 1. Jump forward nearly 20 years to the 2010s and you have the Adidas Busenitz Pro, Nike's top-selling Janoski, and all the updated Vans shoes like the Era Pro, Sk8 Hi Pro, and so on. Of course, there's a great deal of other top skate shoes and skate shoe brands out there, and it's up to you skaters to decide just which ones have gone and will go down as the best skateboarding shoes of all time.

Check out the list of skate shoes below and vote up those you think are best. Feel free to add other shoes to the list and vote any down if you don't think they should be near the top.
