The Dumbest Decisions The Guardians Of The Galaxy Ever Made In The MCU

While on Thanos's home planet of Titan, the Guardians, along with Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man, come up with a plan to take the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos. Mantis manages to calm the angry villain and Spider-Man tries to pry the Gauntlet from his hand while the rest of the team keeps him still. Everyone is doing their part... except Peter Quill. 

Instead of focusing on getting the Gauntlet - the thing that could destroy half the universe - Peter can only think about Gamora. When he finds out that Thanos sacrificed her, he loses his mind. He starts punching Thanos, breaking Mantis's hold on him. As Thanos regains all his faculties, Spider-Man loses his grip on the Gauntlet and can't get it off of Thanos's hand. Thanos recovers, fights off all the heroes, and takes the Time Stone from Strange. 

It was the heroes' one chance to beat Thanos, and Peter ruined it. He acted impulsively and didn't have his priorities straight. If he were thinking, he would have known that getting the Gauntlet was the most important thing. After the Gauntlet was off Thanos's hand, then he could have asked about what happened to Gamora. His decision literally doomed half the universe, including himself. 

When the newly formed Guardians escape from prison in the first Guardians of the Galaxy, Drax the Destroyer tags along on their mission with only one goal in mind: to take down Ronan the Accuser. Ronan wiped out Drax's family, and Drax is desperate to get revenge. 

When they arrive on Knowhere, Drax decides he's tired of waiting to come into contact with Ronan. Instead, he calls Ronan and tells him exactly where they are, hoping that the resulting confrontation will allow him to eliminate Ronan. 

Unfortunately, Drax doesn't have a plan. He calls Ronan, but he doesn't prepare for a fight or attempt to figure out some way that he can actually beat the villain. Instead, he leaves himself and the rest of his team vulnerable to Ronan's onslaught. When Ronan arrives, Drax charges the ship and hopes for the best. Suffice it to say, it doesn't go very well for poor Drax. Not only does he put his entire team in danger, but he also puts the rest of the universe in danger by giving Ronan a real opportunity to get the Orb. 

Drax's choice is poorly thought-out and, if we're being honest, just plain stupid. If he wants vengeance, he should at least come up with a somewhat practical plan before he tells the bad guy exactly where he is and almost dooms the universe. 

In Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos's plan to get all six Infinity Stones finally starts to take shape. After swiping the Space Stone from the Asgardian ship, Thor realizes that Thanos will want the Reality Stone next, which is in Knowhere with the Collector. While Thor goes off to get his new ax, Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, and Mantis travel to Knowhere. 

If Gamora were smart, she would have stayed far away from anywhere Thanos might be. She is the only one who knows the location of the Soul Stone. Plus, she knows she's the only one who has that vital information. If she thinks Thanos is heading to Knowhere, why would she even risk the possibility that he might be able to capture her? 

If Gamora ran away and kept herself out of Thanos's reach, he would have never found the Soul Stone. Without the Soul Stone, he couldn't destroy half the Earth. By stupidly pursuing Thanos, Gamora gave him everything he needed to find the next Infinity Stone. 

During the confrontation on Titan, Peter is undoubtedly the reason our group of heroes don’t get the Infinity Gauntlet. He’s the one who punches Thanos, and therefore, he’s the one who must claim responsibility for Thanos deleting half the universe. 

However, Nebula and Mantis certainly don’t help. As Peter is questioning Thanos regarding Gamora’s whereabouts, he’s clearly upset. Instead of keeping his feelings to herself, Mantis shares that Thanos is in incredible pain. Then, Nebula puts the pieces together and announces to the group that he must have eliminated Gamora. Once Peter finds that out, he loses his mind. 

It’s not the women’s job to predict what Peter will do, but a little tact on their part might have saved the day. Gamora is the woman Peter loves. They probably could have found a better way to announce her demise while simultaneously ensuring that the team got the Infinity Gauntlet. 

At the start of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the Guardians are fighting off an Abilisk to protect the Sovereign, a genetically engineered, highly advanced race. As a reward for destroying the Abilisk, the Guardians will be given Nebula, who was taken into custody by the Sovereign for pocketing their power source, Anulax Batteries. 

After they defeat the Abilisk, the Guardians confront the Sovereign leader, Ayesha, to collect their reward. During this meeting Rocket not only insults the Sovereign, a very proud race, but also steals some Anulax Batteries on his way out of the chamber. 

Rocket Raccoon is generally pretty smart, but this decision was just stupid. The Guardians knew that Nebula had just been detained for nabbing the Batteries. Why would he put himself and his team at risk by doing the same exact thing? Rocket's decision to take the Batteries makes them enemies of the Sovereign. They chase them all across space trying to retrieve the Batteries and put the Guardians in danger on more than one occasion. 

Rocket stole the Batteries simply to spite the Sovereign, without thinking of any consequences. His dumb and reckless decision put all his friends in danger, all for basically nothing. 

In the first Guardians of the Galaxy, Ronan sends Gamora after Peter Quill to retrieve the Orb. Ronan plans to give the Orb to Thanos, but Gamora has other plans. She decides to double-cross her father and keep the Orb out of his hands. While her mission is noble, she tries to keep the Orb "safe" by selling it to... the Collector? 

Obviously, Gamora has some idea about Thanos's ultimate plan. She knows he wants the Infinity Stones and she knows that the Stones hold great power. If Thanos is so desperate to get his hands on this Orb, it's a logical conclusion that the Orb might contain an Infinity Stone. If that's the case, why would Gamora entrust the Orb to the Collector? 

The Collector keeps a large stock of rare interstellar objects. However, he's not a shining example of morality. He gains most objects in his collection through unlawful means and has very little protections that ensure his objects remain safe. If Gamora truly wants to keep Thanos from the Infinity Stone, there are much safer places to hide it than with the Collector. 

Thankfully, the Stone never makes it into the Collector's possession. But Gamora's desire to sell one of the most powerful objects in the universe to a well-known crook isn't exactly smart.
