But that doesn’t mean his work is immune to criticism. In fact, given how brilliant most of his filmography&nbsp;is, Christopher Nolan plot holes are all the more head scratch inducing. Even allowing for the fact that&nbsp;comic book movies usually&nbsp;have a few inconsistencies, this movie transcends most comic book cinema.&nbsp;So, then,&nbsp;The Dark Knight plot holes are more glaring&nbsp;as well. This means that every few years, a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/all-batman-movies-or-list-of-batman-movies" target="_blank">fresh storyline is conceived</a>,&nbsp;and a new cast and crew are hired. Therefore, no one should be surprised that a new film featuring the Caped Crusader will hit theaters on June 25, 2021 -&nbsp;and no, Ben Affleck is no longer involved in the project. While the actor was initially slated to direct a script he wrote with DC&#39;s Geoff Johns, he announced his retirement from the DCEU&nbsp;in January 2019.

Instead&nbsp;of Affleck, everyone&#39;s favorite glittery vampire,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/robert-pattinson-batman-reactions/samantha-dillinger?ref=search" target="_blank">Robert Pattinson</a>, will portray Bruce Wayne and his alter ego, the Dark Knight. Writer and director Matt Reeves&#39;s film will focus on a younger Batman, though it will not be based on <a href="https://deadline.com/2019/01/the-batman-june-2021-release-date-ben-affleck-not-starring-1202545821/" target="_blank">Frank Miller&#39;s comic</a>&nbsp;Batman: Year One. 

With principal roles still being cast, here&#39;s what we currently know about The Batman.

As a comic character, Batman seemingly teeters on the line of fascism. He breaks the law regularly, but when he sees other people doing the same thing, he suddenly takes&nbsp;the moral high ground. His nearly solipsistic worldview falls&nbsp;in line with some troubling ideologies. The secret meaning behind The Dark Knight Rises is one of Camus-meets-Nietzsche nihilism where the status quo becomes prized over a world where everyone lives as equals. 

This messaging in&nbsp;The Dark Knight Rises is hard to miss -&nbsp;it lies&nbsp;in the dialogue, and especially in the actions of Batman. Many viewers feel&nbsp;this is&nbsp;the <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/batman-begins-is-better-than-the-dark-knight/mason-weigel" target="_blank">worst of Nolan&rsquo;s The Dark Knight Trilogy</a>, and while&nbsp;plenty of <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/the-dark-knight-plot-holes/zack-howe" target="_blank">plot holes</a> and overall odd moments exist&nbsp;in the nearly three-hour film, the most overt negativity comes from all the pro-capitalist Dark Knight Rises propaganda.

This isn&#39;t to say Christopher Nolan agrees with this line of thought, of course. Regardless, in The Dark Knight Rises,&nbsp;Nolan&nbsp;casts the anti-corporate revolutionaries as sneering, mustache-twirling villains, while the bureaucratic members of the local government&nbsp;and the wealthiest of Gotham are portrayed as heroes for simply existing. Thematically,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/unsolved-movie-mysteries-the-dark-knight-rises/kellie-kreiss" target="_blank">The Dark Knight Rises</a> is a complete mess.
