"Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" movie quotes show what happens when the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale story is continued in a live action 3D movie. Written by D.W. Harper and Tommy Wirkola, the latter of whom directed the movie, "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" was produced by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Kevin Messick and Beau Flynn. The action-adventure horror film was released in 3D and IMAX 3D on January 25, 2013.
In "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters," Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton star as Hansel and Gretel, respectively, as the story picks up 15 years after the fairy tale ends. The siblings recovered from their incident with the cannibalistic witch in the gingerbread house quite well and in fact used that experience to help them take on careers as witch hunters. They become experts in the field, something that is made easier by the fact that for some reason, they are immune to the witches' spells.
Hansel and Gretel's expertise as witch hunters is summoned when children start disappearing from a German town. The mayor calls on them to seek out evil sorceress Muriel (Famke Janssen) who is behind the kidnappings but time is not on their side as the Blood Moon, a gathering of the witches, is soon approaching.
Hansel: "Me and my sister, we have a past. When we were young, our family was murdered. We were almost killed by a witch. Now we hunt them for a living. That past made us stronger. We'd gotten a taste of blood, witch blood and we haven't stopped since."
Hansel breaks down the main story of the movie which expands on the classic fairy tale. He notes that while he and sister Gretel dealt with tragedy at the hands of witches as a child, the experience only made their taste for witch blood that much stronger.
Hansel: "Some people will say not all witches are evil, that their powers will be used for good. I say, 'burn them all.'"
Having seen so much tragedy at the hands of witches, Hansel isn't buying into the idea that witches can be good. Instead, he has a simple solution, burn them all.
Muriel: "Gretel, the famous witch hunter, finally we meet."
Gretel: "Who are you?"
Muriel: "I see you got my invitation."
Gretel: "Say your name before my arrows rip out your throat."
Muriel: "I go by many names, none of which you're worthy of pronouncing."
Gretel: "Oh my god!"
When Gretel comes face to face with Muriel, the evil sorceress who is stealing children, she's ready for a battle.
Hansel: "Most people say witches aren't real. They're fairy tales. Then one day they show up at your door and eat your kids. That's where we come in. We kill witches. What do you do?"
Hansel sure has a point here. Witches could be real but we may never see them since people like Hansel and Gretel stop them before they can harm us or our children. Stranger things have happened.
