Don't Surround Yourself With People Just Because You're Lonely
From Redditor u/SirHV9:
Don't try to have people around you just because you don't want to be alone. Don't try to make friends just because you don't want to be alone. And most importantly, don't you ever get a girlfriend/boyfriend just because you don't want to be alone. It can wipe you out inside. Not good.
There's nothing more important than fully owning yourself in this existance. Yes, if you follow my "example" you'll be alone many times, and yes, you might suffer because of it... but life is too short. Do whatever you can to be happy... even if it means cutting a good chunk of people out of your life.
It's not much, but I've indeed learned it the hard way, and after realizing and doing something about it, I have been happy and relieved like I've never been before.

Communication And Trust Is The Number One Priority
From Redditor u/rudeyesterday:
Even if you are dating your best friend, you guys will not last if there is no communication and trust with one another
Learned that from my last ex. Friends through high school, dated most through college, and ultimately it all fell down when things did not work out.

When Someone Breaks Up With You, Just Say "Ok"
From Redditor u/trombone7777:
When someone breaks up with you, just say "ok" and don't talk to them for a day or two. It'll drive you both bananas, but it'll save you both from a heap of things you'll regret later. Breakups cause some of the highest emotional states ever... you NEVER want to talk with another person at such a high emotional state. Nothing will make sense.

Life Is Harder Without Close Friends
From Redditor u/Sarcastic__:
It's really hard going through life without close friends. A lot lonelier than I had thought it could be.

Not Everyone Is Your Friend
From Redditor u/talldarkandundead:
Not everyone is your friend. Had a lot of people who I thought were friends suddenly start ignoring me for no reason.
I was living with some “friends” who stopped talking to me all at once because I had asked one of them to move their stuff out of the living room.
The floor was carpeted in their things, from expensive electronics to the garbage and food wrappers. There was a narrow path to walk to the dining table and sofa, and the rest of the floor was covered with this person’s things. Our landlord, seeing the apartment, called it “a human health hazard”, and it made our apartment stink so badly I could barely breathe at times
But clearly, I was the asshole in their eyes. As soon as I wasn’t just going along with their plans, they dropped me like a hot potato. Smh

You Are Responsible For Your Happiness And Not Someone Else's
From Redditor u/Der_Krasse_Jim:
You are the only one responsible for your own happiness.
Also, you are not responsible for someone else's happiness.
