All The Beasts In The Harry Potter Universe

Updated April 22, 2019 4.5k views48 items

One of the best things about the Harry Potter series is the variety of magical creatures that populate its world. Some, like vampires, werewolves, and unicorns, are based on preexisting mythology and are instantly recognizable. Others, like the kneazle and flobberworm, spring directly from the mind of J.K. Rowling. Several "beasts," like veela, are fully sentient beings, while others, like Inferi, have little to no consciousness at all. Some are terrifying, some are delightful, but all are fascinating.

The creatures in Harry Potter are as varied as the wands used by the human characters. Whenever you want to be reminded of the nonhuman beings in the series, refer to this list, which only covers Harry Potter creatures that appear or are mentioned in the films. Creatures that are exclusive to the books or to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them aren't mentioned here.
