Statues have been put up for centuries to commemorate notable people, historic achievements, and artistic movements. Oftentimes, because these statues are so well-known - like the Statue of Liberty and the Spring Temple Buddha - we can imagine them much differently than they appear in reality. The size is usually either imagined to be exponentially larger or exponentially smaller, so the height of famous statues is generally shocking the first time they're visited.
