It can be a fascinating exercise to trace the final moments of historical figures' lives. Their final steps reveal an intimate look at what exactly happened during their last days, something only hindsight allows us to experience. Whether an individual died unexpectedly at a young age or met their end late in life, their lasts say a lot about them.

When it comes to music legends, the sudden deaths of figures from drug overdoses, tragic accidents, and the like may compound the sense of loss. There's often a feeling of lost potential, a desire to know what work they may have left behind, and to understand exactly what went wrong. As part of the attempts we may make to wrap our heads around these deaths, learning about their last meals gives us an insight into their very human nature.

The last meals of music legends include a lot of sandwiches, sweets, and seafood. Perhaps it's just by chance, but they make for an interesting menu of final foods. Take a look and vote up the last meals of famous musicians that are surprisingly simple and relatable.

  • Sinatra was a late riser, often getting out of bed during the early afternoon. His typical day consisted of breakfast, followed by playing with his dogs, and then spending time with friends. He ate a lot of grilled cheese sandwiches while enjoying the confines of his home in Palm Springs; the culinary favorite also ended up being his final meal.

On May 14, 1998, the crooner went about his daily routine and had a grilled cheese sandwich, although he didn't eat the whole thing. Sinatra, who was in declining health, had a heart attack later that day and died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

  • Competing theories exist about the last days of The Doors' frontman Morrison's life but, according to his longtime girlfriend Pam Courson, he spent his last night with her enjoying dinner and a movie in Paris. It's not entirely clear if they actually ate together, but the consistent element in tellings of what happened that night was the inclusion of Chinese food.

Morrison reportedly ate something of the sweet and sour variety, often presumed to have been chicken, alongside multiple beers. During the early morning hours of July 3, 1971, Morrison accidentally overdosed on heroin and died at the age of 27.

Presley spent the day of August 15, 1977 with his daughter Lisa Marie at his Graceland home in Tennessee. The singer, known for being prone to excess, ate one of his favorite meals for dinner that night - spaghetti and meatballs. Presley stayed up all night and asked for some ice cream and cookies around 4 am. He was reportedly served four scoops of ice cream and six chocolate chip cookies, which he followed up with some racquetball and a trip to the bathroom.

Before going to use the toilet, Presley took sleeping pills. This prompted his then-girlfriend Ginger Alden to tell him not to fall asleep. Alden found Elvis on the floor of the bathroom during the early afternoon of August 16, 1977. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead soon after.
